Ranger Archive

Hi folks,

This is Cthulu Ftaghn from Corellia, Radiant. I'm a semi-casual player that's been working slowly and laboriously towards Ranger. I just made Carbineer, and I only have tier IV Hunting and Survival to go before making Master Scout. With the limited hours I have available to play due to work and family, I'd give myself another week before I'll make it, but I'm starting to look forward to my new title.

As such, this is my first visit to the Profession forums. I've been browsing through, and first off I'm pleased with our Correspondent. Great job, Mineras. However... with all the issues being brought up, I am also concerned.

With the current state of things, honestly, is it worth my while to become a Ranger right now? I love what the Ranger is MEANT to be... it fits my desire to be an occasionally PvP'ing big-game animal hunter. But is that what I'm going to end up getting if I continue towards Ranger/Carbineer?

I'm looking for positive or constructive input, please. What do you guys think? Keep on keeping on... or go with a more spread out, hybrid hybrid character for now until things get better? (ie: A little bit o' this, and a little bit o' that)

no. it really isnt worth it now. But many of us are hoping to get a bit more excited (hopefully today) if the devs can tell us what is coming. It needs alot of work. Other then crawling faster, and getting some camps that do no more then give you a bit of eye candy and allow a few medics to craft...that isnt much more then you get at master scout.

I'd suggest that if you like playing scout you'll like playing ranger. I have tons of fun running around all by myself finding new and exciting things (go explore the center area of Corellia ... Lord Nyax awaits; /burstrun).

I'm not at all turned on by the PvP stuff, so 'meh', but as a Carbineer or Pistoleer you shouldn't have too much trouble holding your own against just about anyone. I don't have any experience with rifles in combat situation, but I'm sure some of our RR (Riflemen/Ranger) brethren can chime in to help out.

I too am a casual player, so i mostly play solo. Scouting as a trade really appeals to me, sounds like it does to you to. I'd say: Go For IT! I'm having a blast.

If you have been reading the boards, then the general feeling on the boards here is that there isn't that much difference between Ranger and Master Scout.

We get cooler camps. They look cooler, they "might" heal faster, and some have crafting stations.

We can crawl faster on our bellies (wayfair). No we cannot move faster up hills, or on regular ground than a master scout, all we get is better prown movement (in fact there are some who believe that are regular movement has been slowed down since the new patch).

We can harvest a little more than a master scout, and we do get bonuses for attacking creatures (it might also make them hit less).

We have useless traps. The trapping line is really easy to get xp, but is also pretty much useless.

With camoflauge (wayfair), I believe that the higher this skill is, aggro mobs will attack you less.

Now, that is the difference between master scout and ranger. Is it worth playing? As a casual player, it might take you awhile to get master ranger (especially the camping xp). maybe by then, ranger will actually have decent stats. To argue natebc's point of "...if you like playing a scout, you'll like playing ranger." It is in essence a true statment, cause ranger isn't that much different than a master scout. The primary difference between a master scout and a master ranger, is that the master scout will have more skill points available, wher eyou can put in thinks like carbineer, or whatevers.
