Thread: Why would anyone want to be a Ranger??

Surprise, this is not a rant on how being a Ranger sucks and how I want to become a Jedi right the hell now.

As I sat there listening to the CHs and TKs whining and sniveling about how it was "unfair" they got nerfed (Like 3 rancors is fair, and being able to take out a well armored/armed guy with two hits was) I realized something.... Rangers did not take any really bad hits and wow, it's still fun being one. I still wander the woods, mountains, fields, beaches (hey, sometimes I am not lost) and harvest what I want/can. The new explorer missions are actually decent..."Go kill me 50 durnis, I hate them suckers" and you get hides, bones, and cash?? What a deal !!

This is not EverCrack, where you read the forums and become the UberDude in 2 weeks. This is a long term game, think weeks, months, maybe a year even, not hours and days.

Again, as I have said a few times before...GROUP. Play nice with others. Rangers lead the way, then I back off and let the armored killers do their thing, then harvest the hides, say Thanx and sell them later on. Gee, do I get hit... sometimes. Do I whine... sometimes... but I usually set up camp, chill, heal, watch an BH who will go nameless dance (**edit** that is funny to see)... and then the GROUP is good to go. Notice the word GROUP, not solo, not 2 guys (tho I do run a 2 man team a lot, but we are multi talented)...GROUP.

I'm enjoying it as well. Climbing slowly and steadily up the Ranger tree to master and loving it!

Thing about the Ranger is:

It's already fun and works reasonably- and it can only get better.

What do you mean rangers lead the way, thers no tracking skill, or in fact any skill anyone would want in a group. And with a good group with a couple healers camps are nearly useless, since nobody needs to heal. Maybe someone wants a camp to take their pet out, well everyone in the gruop has some scouting and can put one up lol.

As for pvp youre at a HUGE disadvantage because those points spent in ranger make you worse since you could have used those points in another combat skill... That said I'm still trying for master ranger wasting my time camping for almost a week now while everyone else is out having fun. I thought ranger meant a class that goes and explores and stuff not someone wh sets up a camping macro for 3-4 days just for one box of exp lol.

I agree the ranger class can only get better and since it is not high profile on the nerf rader we should not get to many drastic "fixes".

Thetop lvl camp defends you from mobs. it's nice when your on endor to know you can set up a camp in the middle of a bunch of reds and be safe.

Ever been with a group of 10 to find out your medic ran out of the high lvl Stem Packs? Hunting group is all but over till he gets more (Esp now without all the pet tanks). A ranger can through up a Camp with a crafting station and the Medic can make more stems.

Oh, and the top camps looks really cool

Yeah. My multi-person camp does get a little bit lonely way out in the middle of nowhere... all by myself... just me and that warm, fuzzy durni that keeps nuzzling up to me. Just a cute, fluffy, little durni... /smack! Maybe a little TOO lonely.

I better start grouping!

I am kind of mixed on the "Needing to Group" thing. I have two issues with this.

1) Few people, except other Rangers, like to go more then 2-3k out from any town (NPC or player settlement.) I am out there wondering the countryside and I could be out for hours.

2) There isn't any "We need a Ranger for XXXX!" What do rangers bring to a group that someone who has Mastered Scout to get to Bounty Hunter can't do.

So right now, I have to resort to "begging" people to group with me so I can work on my skills without anything to offer in return.

I agree with the sentiment... that for a profession that is supposed to be "Well Suited For Defending Others In Combat".... I have YET to ever see anyone say... "OHhhh... lets get that Ranger in our Group!!!".... simply because we have yet to live up to our professed potential because our skillset does not quite match the role we are supposed to be suited for...

But to be fair... groups just aren't that defined in this game as much as they were in other games because most of the combat related classes are so buggy or so gimped or so similar that its hard to even define "roles" in grouping like you can in other MMORPGs...

Seems like all we have is basics like "We need a tank... we need someone to pull... we need a medic..."

There just aren't any buffing/debuffing or clearly defined support classes yet... its almost as if... "going grouping? the only thing that really matters is sheer numbers and numbers of pets"...

If I had a wish it would be that they would start to clearly define the combat classes so that they weren't so similar (ie.. they all get the same skills/feats just as a different name) and that they would take professions like SL/Ranger/CM/CH/E and clearly define their support roles in combat....

I mean really... whens the last time you asked a musician to group with you?????
