Thread: It is time for us all to come to terms with something...

Master Ranger is going to remain broken... or better yet, a contradiction, for a while. After reading the developer responses to the other classes and making a mental note of the similarities (and differences) to the way the EverQuest Devs do things, I am convinced that no matter what we have heard from Mineras (this is in no way a negative post about Mineras, he has done a great job) we are not going to see much changed to BETTER the class for many months (if not for a year).

I know, it sucks to hear but it is obvious that the Devs are looking at things very slowly (which may be a good thing) and that they are only affecting what they consider immediate concerns, and the structure of an Elite class seems to bean extremely low priority. The fact that the Master Ranger is not just a broken class but a horribly actualized class will not help us one bit. I would LOVE to be proven wrong but after what I read this morning it just seems like we have a very long wait in store for us.

Consider yourselves alpha testers... paying alpha testers. Suck it up because it is going to be a long and bumpy ride... and every now and then the brakes are not going to work.

So lures, better traps, tracking, bait, better camps, more hits to creature bonuses... anything that should have been considered and added to the class before we payed for it, will probably not make it in before Christmas (which Christmas, I am not sure). Expect to see Rangers flying X-Wings before you see them leaving a trap for roaming creatures outside of their camp.

I can only agree. I chose this profession because ultimately I will be able to build the High Tech big cheese never say die holy cow Field Base from hell. That and I like killing durnis and gubbers for xp.

No really. If you back up this field with oh... Artisan (Eng 2, Survey 2), Medic (first aid 2, Organic 2), Pistoleer, a good dose of Marksman (forget carbine), you are one decent player.

Shooting, moving and communicating are the keys to winning a battle.

( OK if you know where I stole this from, you win a beer)

I can shoot pistols and rifles fairly well, my burst speed rivals that of the 6 million dollar man, and communicating, well, I can mask and see whats ahead. If and when they get the camps working right, that is an advantage for groups. I harvest my butt off, and sell the stuff when and where I can, or more likely give it away for future "favors"..i.e. free armor, clothes, sliced weapons. I can survey and find resources so I quit buying them. My medical skills are low, but high enough I can stop bleeding (my own mainly, those stinking murras anyhow) and make some decent stims.

The key to this game is play nice with others. Get in a group and maximize your abilities to help the group.
I ran with a friend yesterday on several missions, he shot, I harvested, we split the money and both made a ton of XP, decent credits, and had a great time.

That what's this is all about, not I got mine, screw you, all bow to me.

And for all you kiddies who can't realize that, keep whining. When the server is down, I read your letters and laff.

I should have also included that I also realized that I should unlearn my Carbineer line and start working on Pistol or Rifle. There should be a sticky warning to all Rangers on this board.. AVOID CARBINES!

Why avoid carbines?

I am novice carbineer, aspiring Ranger and I love carbines cause they are better at long range then pistols and better at short range then rifles.

I dont want to hijack this thread, please just give me a simple answer or lead me to another post that explains why. Thank you

I've come to terms with this reality and have started migrating Ranger skills to more well rounded/usefull Elite Profs.

However with the ability do what I'm doing with my character, it makes what you are saying very dangerous, in EQ the situation was different. The classes were fixed, you could change only by starting over forcing many to just stick it out rather then start over. Whereas you can simply migrate with far less loss of time. I think in 6 months this game with be twice what it is now.

I wait and soak enough time as it is with mmo's. I'm not gonna make the mistake of waiting week after week hoping to see something pushed to test.

I hope I'm wrong but I bed that we are sitting around here in 3 months going, what happened to this and what ever was decided about or or when when when.

Go with pistol. As a rifleman who dabbles in scouting, trust me on this one. Rifle is having some fundamental issues ignored right now and several of the top issues for pistol are cosmetic or huge enhancements like dual wield. Yeah, just go pistol. Trust me.

I'm going to have to disagree on the point of Ranger's being well rounded in a group....

I'm Ranger/Squad Leader/Pistoleer/Medic....

I led a group last night on Talus for about 4 hours...

I took significantly more damage than anyone else..

I had the most down time...

I ended up needed healing more than the BRAWLERS

Before you flame me...

I really don't think its my equipment or play style... I'm an MMORPG vet... I've led some kickbutt parties in UO/EQ/AO/AC/AC2 and my playstyle hasn't changed hardly at all...

Yet as a Ranger.. I just seem to lack the ooomph to really be an effective grouper

Solo I can handle my own... just fine... thats not at issue...

I just feel less beefy in a group of brawlers/TKs/Creature Handlers...

I guess thats just my experience though...

Sadly I agree with the thread starter. SOE loves to nerf, hates to enhance. It will be a very long time before Rangers are given any enhancements.

As for the weapon argument. I love my Carbine and will never give it up. The people thatsay they suck just haven't learned to use them effectively.

We haven't learned to use them effectively? Are you kidding? I dueled a Pistoleer who was 2 branches below my Carbineer line and he OWNED ME. It was a joke... he lost very little HAM using special moves while I lost a ton. Plus, pistols are very effective at any range while Carbines are not.

While rifles do have some very fundamental problems, ESPECIALLY in conjuntion with Ranger (movement bug from Take Cover) I have to say that I think people should use whatever weapon they like. I'm first tier Rifleman, with Expert pistol skill. I played pistoleer, and TKA in beta, and of all the combat styles, I prefer rifleman the best. It's all just a matter of tactics and personal preference. If you're carbineer, power to you, rifleman, hello my brother!, and pistoleer, whatever floats your boat!

I just wanted to make a comment on the pistol vs carbine aspect of being a Ranger.

If you hunt with a small group of diverse people (my group has 2 rifleman and a commando) go with the carbine. The Action 2 shot is a Wonderful shot on creatures because it stops them in their tracks. I use my action shot every 3rd shot (depending on animal size) and the animal doesnt move (very often) from where we want it too. If i get too low because of using special shots then the part time medic in the group just hits me real quick.

I will say that this is not as effective VS other player characters, but against animals it works very well and the risk of even getting hit by them is minimal.

I have yet to find a reason to train for any Ranger ability other than improved harvesting and improved speed. Frankly, I don't find the Ranger's trapping or survival abilities even mildly intriguing. So until the Devs come up with something, I'm pretty much building up and storing my Scouting, Survival and Trapping points as they're used on missions and such, on hopes that one day I'll be able to spend them.
