Thread: Just got Novice Ranger and I have some questions
1. I've never really made money by selling goods on the Bazaar.. I was wondering if someone can tell me or direct me to a post that helps me figure out whats sellable and what's not. I have no idea what the stats on the hides and meats mean, so I would have no idea what to charge for these things. What are some animals out there that provide some prime material? I'm also a novice rifleman, so don't direct me to the Krayts cause i think they'll just crap on me and moveon ![]()
2. What do the stats on animals mean? Ferocity 5.. allright.. what does that mean? The only one that I can figure out is DerathBlow YES or NO. Pretty straight foward.. the others.. no idea.
3. How can I tell if a creature will get help from his buddies? I can kill lots of things solo, but the story changes very quickly when their friends jump in to help out.
3b. How far does a creature have to be from his friends in order to be out of "Help me I'm geting shot" range?
4. Any Area Track tips? I just have the Novice Rnager version.. is it usefull at that level? What range does it have at that level?
Thanx for your help!1 Looking forward to eventually reaching master ranger.
2. Ferocity is the likelyhood of a creature to attack you. Hermit Spiders for example have a Ferocity of 0. You could stand right next to them and it would take a few seconds for them to attack you. Creatures with high ferocity will attack or stalk you from even maximum range.
3. We've requested that this be added to the examine window but currently the only way to know is through experience. Also, check out www.swgcreatures.com I believe they have that info.
3b. Generally I've found it to be anywhere from 25-50m. I'm not entirely sure what stats determines how "aware" they are. To be safe, I always drag a creature out 64m or more
4. It can be useful at times. I use it to find specific creatures. Not sure about your range. I believe its 300m. At Master, its 500m.
1. Make a macro. Advertise what you have. http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=ranger&message.id=23706That thread is helpful. I'd probably focus on meats to sell, they're usually the easiest to pass off.
2. I'm not sure what Ferocity means, perhaps it's how vicious his hits will be upon you or even how ferocious he'll be after you attack and go "peace".
3. No way to know at the moment, just learn from experience. If you have a droid or pet, let it hit a creature to see if the others come help. One can avoid them helping, if they are aggressive, by luring one away from the others. Or "letting them stalk you." I'm also pretty sure long as you just lure it away, or even get it to attack you without hitting it, it's buddy won't help out. I'd stick to at least 40m away though.
4. Areatrack. Helpful if you do explorer missions or are looking for a specific animal in your location. I think the range might be like, 300m?
Looks like most of your questions have been answered so I'll just throw in some pricing that works for me (I'm amillionaire several times over strictly from selling meat/hide/bone so I must be doing something right.)
Meat - Avian is the king and is the way you can get rich. Your customers for avian meat are doctors. You can harvest avian at novice level from kaadus and peko pekos on Naboo, carrion spats on Corellia, and fynocks (not mynocks) on Talus. Quality does matter. You are looking for a high overall quality (OQ) and/or a high potential energy (PE). If either one is above 700 its good stuff, if both are its even better. If neither are, then its average no matter what the other stats are. Here's a formula a doctor friend of mine uses when she buys avian meat. It's a fair formula and takes into account what stats are important to a doctor.
1 unit = 3 * ((.66)OQ + (.33)PE) / 100)
That may look complicated but its just the weighted average of the statsdivided by100 and multiplied by 3 for a "need factor". If avian meat is plentiful sometimes she drops it down to 2 but its usually 3 to reflect a higher demand. So for a avain meat with 900 OQ and 600 PE you would get
900 OQ/600 PE = 24cpu.
Multiply 24 times the amount of meat you have (say 9k) and you can see how it adds up fast. Sometimes doctors on your galaxy may offer more than this, if so, take it. But if you use this as your minimum guideline, you won't be going wrong.
As far the other meats go, herbivore meat is another popular meat to sell to doctors though they need less of it than avian. You can use the same formula as above, just lower the multiplier to a 2 or a 1 to reflect less of a need.
Sometimes I get stacks of carnivore meat and sell them from between 5cpu to 10 cpu depending on quality. Mostly bio-engineers and some chefs buy these. Anything else is sellable but you won't make the same kind of money for your effort.
Hides - Wooley is the popular choice here and what's nice is that quality doesn't matter. Architects will buy wooley from you for furniture and they don't get better furniture from better meat. 10 cpus or more (but less than 20) seems to be the going rate here.
Armor makers use leathery, scaly and bristley hide for their creations. Very good quality hide is what they need so your average hide is only going to sell to grinders. They're prices vary drastically amongst individuals so you'll have to check into that on your own server.
Hope that helps and good hunting!
That's true and thanks for pointing that out. I use that formula as a minimum, if I find a buyer willing to pay more, then I certainly won't deny them the opportunity to fill my bank account. ![]()
I also generally sell to only one doctor who always buys from me using that formula. So I might lose a little on the really good stuff but I also have a place to sell the low to average stuff for a good price when no good stuff is around on my galaxy. It all evens out in the long run.
That' s some great info! Thank you very much!! Before estableshing some good buyers, did you use the Bazaar or just advertise in a crouded area?
And what's the smallest amount you would bother selling? With taht question I understand the Bazaar is quite limited.
