Very nice post, man! Very nice.

Trap, trap, trap and stop whining about it. I still trap and can't use the 3.5 million FS xp I have in the senses area.

Traps are part of the whole Ranger playstyle for me. I think too many people get stuck in the need to "grind" when you'll be a lot more effective if you just USE the blasted things, as you hunt. /me shrugs. But then one definite issue is if you hunt in groups, your other Ranger xp is going to quickly outdistance your trap XP. Solo it's much more level (which is how I play).
Power definitely sells well. I have a Fusion harvy now finally, and my hubby scopes out places to put it for me. I just pay for it. If you don't have someone to survey for you, but do have a little extra money - look where other's have placed their power harvesters (make sure they're not condemned though). You can drop yours and see what the % is. Obviously this can get expensive but it's not that bad if you make educated guesses.
I forgot - you can probably get a crafter to help you (by surveying) if you offer to acompany and group with them on their harvy runs. There's nothing more annoying than getting one shot while you're trying to just check your harvesters.

Finally, regardless of faction, guild, shoe size and race - Ranger is a brotherhood. Yes, there are some asshats, but they are few and far between. Always help other Rangers with training and share good harvest info.

Rangers will not a get a new "hat" for their profession since, as JBMat has so kindly pointed out, they already have a few. Wear them with pride!
JB..... <sniff> that was just beautiful--especially the part about "a Brotherhood." Excuse me while I go compose my Rangerdom. ![]()
Great pointers for the beginning Ranger and good reminders for the Vets.

Doing a search is a pain even when it works. Here are some tips to help new Rangers:
Get a crafting station for use in your house. Make sure it is the weapon/droid one. First, it will allow you to make schematics, second you can store tons of stuff in it. Literally tons. All in one handy spot.
Obtain a wind generator or solar generator. No surveying needed. Set it up where it is easy to find, like outside your house. Then after a week or so of collecting energy, get a mineral or chemical harvestor, or both. Again, set them up where you can find them. Harvest metal and/or poly to make traps. After a bit you will have extra energy, sell it. And the extra metal and other stuff you find, sell them as well. A decent monkey maker.
Never sell a stack of less than 1k. Sell on the bazaar if you have to, but make sure your prices are not insane. (Once saw 500 units of hide for 20k... dumb. The stats sucked) After a while you will find this is a constant source of creds.
Make friends with a Tailor and a BE. Offer hides at discount rates for free clothes. Offer meat/milk/eggs to the BE. Bartering and being nice gets you lots of free stuff. Also find a decent AS and you can get free armor for hides.
Master a weapon or combat class. Don't dabble in several without mastering one. The specials are worth it. So are the combat levels, as you can use better stims.
Join a guild or at least hunt in a group. The bonuses to XP and harvesting are worth it. With a high level group of 8, I can max out xp on 3 weapons and have upwards of 100k of hides after a 90 minute session.
Entertainer buffs are worth it. And tip the poor people.
Clothing does not make the Ranger, but defensive bio-mod clothes help a lot. As do bio-mods for camo and maskscent. Remember what I said about the Tailors and BEs?
Trap, trap, trap and stop whining about it. I still trap and can't use the 3.5 million FS xp I have in the senses area.
If you are a Ranger and don't have all the POIs, shame on you. Same with the trophies. And the Master Hunter trophies from Tat and Kashyyk. This includes the "hidden POIs".
Finally, regardless of faction, guild, shoe size and race - Ranger is a brotherhood. Yes, there are some asshats, but they are few and far between. Always help other Rangers with training and share good harvest info.

Having said that... whether you are a new ranger, a dabbling ranger, or a full on died in the wool never gonna give it up even if the game stops tomorrow RANGER, get your butt into your local RIN and make your voice heard locally. Even if it is just a wimpish "hullo" every once in a while.
There's other rangers out there just going nuts from the solitude... say Hi. It really confuses them.

that being said-- nice stuff JB.
Ack rofl.
Something I have been thinking about.
Always keep an Equipment factory deed that is already stocked with plenty of power and a crafting station droid in your inventory. If you ever need a large amount of traps, set the factory down, craft the schematic, throw the stuff in and wait for a while. You could even do it right before you log off for the night.
Good tips as usual, JB.
