I'm a MR / MRM right now and I'ma bit bored, since PvE just isn't something this template can handle. I've been thinking about dropping the MRM and going for Bounty Hunter, but don't have a lot of info about that template. If there are any MR/MBH out there can you pass along the pros and cons of your style of playing?

[boggle]

MR/MRM can't handle PvE?

I better go put all these critter resources and various animal bits back where I got them...

Well, even at PVP you'll usually die. I try to PVP semi-often now, seeing as I hunt Jedi on occasion and need the experience, but usually lose. For the most part you will be able to kite really well, so long as they don't root you. Damage output works nicely if you start off with a pistol damage capped, then when they get near 30% health switch to a rifle or high powered carbine. If you're fighting a ranged opponents /duelist stance adds 500 Ranged Defense, which also gives some return fire damage. That has saved my rear plenty of times, but for the most part it just delays the inevitable in PVP. You'll usually spend more time healing than anything else just because your defenses will be low as a Ranger and your accuracy still won't be grand.

The only bonus I saw when changing from MPistols to MBH was the duelist stance and diversity of weapons lets me take on any PVE target, even if they're difficult level-wise, whereas normally I'd not have the defense to pull that sorta thing off. For PVP though, anything MRanger/X tends to be poor at fighting, but at the very least you can /track cloaked Jedi around town, you can do BH missions when you don't feel like hunting animals, and realistically you can be apart of a profession that is thoroughly worked on regularly.

MR/MBH is weak in both areas, although stronger in PvE due to the use of traps. PvE meaning creature fighting, not NPC fighting.

The BH specials are semi weak, no snare no root, the KD is a joke, the bleed is nice if you can wait an hour and the baddie can't regen faster than you can bleed and kite. The best specials are the blind and dizzy, as they increase damage taken.

Don't get me wrong, the damage output is decent with weapons. But overall, the MR gets in the way of having another combat profession to augment the specials. I think an MBH/MPistols would be awesome. MBH/Mrifles would be better. MR/MBH is a challenge to play sometimes.

/agree

MRanger / MBH is not a template foreasy PvE. Critters and NPCBountys can be tough to take down.My tools include an Adv LR, FWG5, and anElite carbine. I frequently buypowerups to get better damage as well as, food, Spice, BE clothing, Drinks, stim D's, and a sturdy droid.

Myfavorte PvE template was MBH / MCommando. Fire + Bleed seemed to help a lot with NPC's and high end critters. I could hunt all day and never need to heal.

Well, I'm ashamed to admit this...

But I recently respec'd from Master Rifleman to Master Bounty Hunter.

I didn't want to, but I'm going for jedi for the alt character, and I'm at the point where I would have to drop master rifleman to free up some skill points, and I couldn't be as effective hunting. So, I respeced to BH for the skill points. Now I've got free skill points, and novice medic back.....

.... but I feel dirty.....

Master Ranger/MBH here. Want best of both worlds; good at killing critters and NPCs.

Your accuracy and speed sucks. I gotta use that food that boosts accuracy to do any damage to my marks. Your Rifleman mods for accuracy and speed are much better than BH. On the plus Side, you get better defense mods.

I am Master Ranger / MRM and I do fairly well with that template. I agree that MR gets in the way of a MBH template though. I had considered doing the same and taking MR/MBH, but was talked out of it by a friend.

Iconic professions. Ok. Chewbacca was a Scout. How come that didn't stay?

When you think about it, aren't almost all of the original professions iconic? You can find something on each of them in the Expanded Universe.

I miss being a Ranger. It was more than a profession, it was a virtual way of life. It wasn't for everyone. But those who took it up became family.
