Thread: bye bye silly rangers
I haven't had a lot of constructive things to say about the ranger prof since i started 5 months ago and over the weekend I finally dropped ranger and started to persue bh. During this grind I came to my final conlusion about SWG in general. With out the grind there is no SWG. A constant hum drum battle of killing stuff to an end that really has no purpose.
I have a feeling that most mmorpg's are like this but dunno, but i've stopped the grind andended my subscription,Later fellas.

Bye!
Powerleveling leads to the dark side. The dark side being boredom.
Seriously, you don't have to grind. Really. But too many people think that it's only fun if your template is done, if you are teh ubah.
It's the road getting there, my friend, not the destination.
And a Ranger's road is just more hilly and scenic ^_^

First off, I feel I must slap your wrist for such a troll'ish subject line. That done, on with the reply.
When I was "grinding" ranger, I had a saying which I passed on whenever an appropriate opening came up: "Don't grind, just enjoy the journey".
You're right in saying there's no real purpose to anything, but is that so much of a surprise? I mean it's no different to real life, Monty Python made a whole film on the subject, "The Meaning of Life", what is it? In short, it's what you make of it.
Apart from leveling up, and getting into big PvP battles, MMORPG's (SWG in particular) have a social side to them, unlike non-RPG games. This is what the entertainer based professions are there for, to promote social interaction. With that in mind though, it's a shame SOE seem to be going to so much trouble to marginalise those professions so much.
In MMO's it is the vision of the world, the structure of the game mechanics, and options and possibilities available that pull you in. However, in the long run it is the community that keeps you playing.
If you end up with out friends in-game to share the experience with, then the game is not worth much.
So if you find the game boring in it self, it is most likely because you are soloing to much or because you hang out with people to different from your self in interest.

When I was a BH, at one point I was also an Image Designer (I was in the process of switching to BH from Master Entertainer/Master Musician/Master Image Designer). I would go hunt my padawan marks with the "Hairstylist" profession tag showing over my head, in the hopes that when they died to a hairdresser they would be a bit more demoralized. I got a lot of "I need a haircut" comments from their friends while doing so. I wish I had noticed the improved defense offered by Dancer, I could have gone that path instead
As well I figured no one would suspect anyone wearing the "Hairstylist" tag as being a BH in disguise
