I know its another temp question but here it goes:
Instead of the traditional MR/Mranger, would TKA/MRanger work?
Or would you be getting to upclose and personal

It works and there is still at least one active TKM/Ranger here. I did it with one of my Ranger toons pre-CU and it was a lot of fun. Post-Cu it should be better except for damage output. No armor just a nice hunting outfit, some nice knucklers of your choice, a few traps, and a droid or pet to help increase your dps.

I am a TKM Ranger (working back to master, yet again). It is quite nice. I can handle anything that is no more thatn a level or two about me, with ease. I use traps to avoid group agro, so I don't know how TKM is vs multiple critters. I think is a great match to Master Ranger.

One benefit to being a Melee Ranger is that you are always within harvesting range after you kill something

Do you not find that the complete lack of healing is a major problem? Or do you just rely on Bliel/Stims? I would have thought the lack of healing would cripple this combination. I suppose if you can use traps to pull singles, you can rest between fights easily enough. Whats the highest level critter you can take on? I understand a ranged Ranger can use TN to take on Krayts but I imagine this is less possible with TKM/Ranger...

It's all in the Center of Being. CoB cuts out half the damage you are dealt (based on white-yellow con status, I haven't checked with harder cons). I can usually drop a white to yellow con critter with at least 1/4 of my health left. That is when I use powerboost, btw. That adds +500 to your health. I am eventually going to need stims, I bet, but I just dropped medic and, without any stims in my inventory, I haven't missed it.

Oh I am so glad to hear this combination works effectively. I have been madly changing my template back and forth continuously trying to find a combination I liked. I have tried many of the professions in game so far and of the non-crafting ones, enjoyed Ranger, CH, TK, and Doctor the most. I have been reluctantly dropping my Ranger/Scout skills (and foolishly chose to drop the Trapping ones first of course), but now I may try going back up to Ranger again, because I really hated leaving it. I hadn't tried TKM at the time of course, so I hadn't thought of this as a viable combination. I will give it a shot and see what I think.
Any other tips you might provide?

TKM/MDOC is still a very viable and fun profession also.
Yes, and I may well end up in that spec by the time I am done. I am also working on FS experience so I can get the alt character, and TKM/Ranger will not let me purchase the necessary FS skills to qualify. In the end I may have to drop it and go TKM/MDoc which will give me the room to do so, or MDoc/MCH.
In either case my alt will most likely become a Ranger instead, that was already decided
The funny thing is I am really not sure what it is I like about Ranger so much. In practical terms its probably more SP efficient to be a Master Scout, but that never seems to be enough...
