Thread: Disappointment in the Village

Well, even though I tend to kill slower than my Master Swordsman friends,I wasalways proud ofmy Rifleman/Ranger's armorless,+125 camo, headshot3 (or concealshot) strategy. Then I suddenly got glowie (without really trying) and wound up at the village. There, I discovered that neither camo nor concealshot does diddly, even at 65m out, and being armorless is a death sentence. All I can do is heave a big sigh.

I thought camo might help, too, but when the Sith first spawned on me and I saw their numbers, I wasn't surprised it was useless. Actually, it doesn't break but it just seems to have no effect, similar to caves/dungeons.

Forget the /concealshot, buff up and wear some good composite with resists to ranged weapons (They seem to stay at a ranged distance except against players that engage them with melee).

Most importantly, try to go when there are others waiting for the spawn to start so you can group with them.. preferably a group with lots of docs so they can rez you when you die.

It's a huge battle, so it's less about individual tactics and more about teamwork and awareness. Keep an eye out for yourself and anyone in trouble, and don't start attacking Sith that aren't already aggrod on you or attacking others. (Let the swordsmen/tanks do that!) Try to start on the outer edge of the city and work your way in. If the group stays together, everyone should be able to get a good number of their required outlaw/pirate kills before being slaughtered. Once everyone ends up at the cloners in the science outpost, regroup and head out again for another round.

Currently the village is a group players heaven. With such a large number of Sith spawning you need a full group to succesfully negotiate the peril, that's for sure.

To some degree I think its healthy though, to prevent us from relying on ConcealShot. I too had hoped that camo would work as I spent 1 entire spawn session just trying to talk to the Captain in order to take my mission.

The big curse of the village right now, though, is its lack of useful Ranger/Scout oriented bonuses. If you're headed there make sure you concentrate on Combat related bonuses, unless your main is a crafter and you plan on redoing it with your eventual alt.

btw, if you just 1 shot hit the pirates and outlaws, you get credit when they die.

Really? I did my entire Phase 1, 2 and 3 combat quests unbuffed and unarmoured using Camo and Concealshot (and Camo really was very useful on the Phase 2 collecting crates from Endor quest, could walk right up to the downed ships and pick up the crate without needing to fire a shot, which is handy in a quest you fail if you get incapped [of course this was before the Devs changed it so the crate auto-picked up if you walked within about 100m of it, after tha anyone could do it safely]).

Haven't got round to trying Phase 4 yet (having too much fun in space) but as I've only been buffed once in the last two months and can't remember the last time my Comp was taken out of its storage droid I'm not anticipating any great problems.

Phase 1, rescue villagers. Camo, walk in, converse, walk out. Next phase please.

Phase 2, get supplies. Camo, walk in, take stuff, walk out. Next...

So far, my weapon has not fired.

Phase 3, I want luck, drop Medic, get Artisan. Gotta survey. This is Dathomir, we shall maskscent. Done, in under an hour. One side trip to Corellia where I heard solar was high. Next please.

Phase 4. You have to be kidding me. Unless I have 5 or more armored, buffed, Master Combat types, and a Master Doctor, I am not going near the village. Yeah, I could run in, fanshot and hope some die of old age. Not likely.

Oh well, 3 wks to work on pilot. Then to Phase 1 and get a banner. Do tell I may fire a weapon. I will be armored, I will buff, and I will use my droid. Should be an ace by then, with luck.

I finished my Quest buffed but unarmored. Really who wants to look like all these Composite cans

You need a group, thats good
You need to be carefull, aren't Rangers always carefull

I really tried to avoid getting aggro, using autofire or some flurry shots while the Sith weren't attacked be a melee figther but by other ranged fighters. This way I could give my share to kill the sith witout getting killed. Ok, i was killed quite offten, but I didn't mind it

When a melee fighter had the aggro I could spam flurry shot and if no other sith were around some strafe shot2 but you have to make sure the melee fighter gets the aggro again before you die .

Synth Steaks were a good idea btw.

When I did this current quest, there were so many people there that I didn't need armor or buffs or even specials. I tried spamming specials at a few of them, but I realized that the uber melee types were taking them down so fast, that specials or not I would still getabout 20 xp from each of them, so I just started targeting and using my default attacks.

This might be harder now that the quest has been around for a while and lots of people have already completed it, but I swear on my server it was a circus for a few days with about 100 people waiting for the sith to spawn and then demolishing them as fast as they could. In this situation, you can just stay back, shoot, switch targets, and shoot again.

Of course, it might be a different story if you're melee and you have to chase the guys down.

I went in last night and got all my outlaws and a handful of pirates. Finally got beat down by a thug after I got stuck on a rock...heh. When I go back next I will just keep scanning for pirates. Sad that they made the sith run so much faster than anyone else. Once they are ready to run they run.. warp straight thru a wall and disappear. Nice lil bug SOE used to their advantage. I'm TKM so I cant pop em from a distance. Oh well.

I will go back tonight and finish up. Buffed armored and using some food. Shouldnt be too bad.

Have you seen them crawl? It's insane! Some of the rifle carrying Sith get into the prone position and fire, but then they crawl after you to adjust their range. They crawl about as fast as someone running at regular speed. Kind of funny to watch... as long as they're not crawling after you.

You are aware that you do not have to kill them just hit them. Then as along as someone kill the Sith you get credit.

As a riflemen I tapped all the pirates I saw and moved on to the next target.

One day when Ranged Speed, Accuracy, and Defense are fixed in Force Skills I will be a happier Ranger.

Until then Luck is the only force skill I need.

I am keeping Melee Speed until Sony fixes the Ranged Speed bug.

If you don't know Melee Speed applies to Ranged speed as well for now.

I went last night and found that as soon as you get all your outlaws done they all aggro you. I spent almost all the spawn time standing in the hut with about 12 or so ranged sith popping me as soonas I set foot out the door. Not enough people there so they all just ran around attacking the sith that they wanted. It was no fun. I think they have a hidden rating. Kill 50 sith outlaws(easiest) and then they all aggro you. Pretty much BS imo that I couldnt leave the hut. I'm TKM and just recently dropped 1-1-0-4 of Rifleman so I could get some Ranger skills back. Man, if I had only knew about this first... lol.

Oh well, I will go back saturday night when its fully camped and try it again.

This is only partially true. I was in the village and using my AOEs to hit multiple targets and alleviate some of the aggro's our tanks were working on. At one point I had to race away to help a friend who was coming to join our group. While I was gone the Tanks finished off the aggros, they recieved credit but I did not. As a result I'm assuming thatwhile you can tap the Sith for credit, you must be within a certain range, I'm assuming 60m, to get credit for the kill.

HAHA! I'm thinking about taking Luck while we wait for the fixes just for the sake of seeing if it helps me at the Jubilee Wheel! Since starting pirate I gamble most of my Duty mission earnings. It's not too bad really. With a little time and smart betting I can make around 100k off the Jubilee Wheel just while picking up duty missions.

Big tip here! Thanks for the heads up. If you're planning on going for the Jedi slot you'll want this modifier anyway I think. If you're like me, just unlocking the extra character slot, then I guess it could go either way.

My comments in Green.
