Since we might be getting some love after the combat revamp, should we as a community have a survey of what sort of role we want to be able to perform as a ranger, or if indeed we want our role changing at all?

Part big game hunter, part elite soldier. It's safe to say that elements of the ranger community would like to see either of these if not both, so why not give us the tools to be effective in either role, giving us the flexibility to choose howwe want toapplyour skills? Although I would love to see more skills applicable to combat, I'd still like to be the outdoor specialist. The two roles are really just different sides of the same coin, so I don't think the idea is too far from what was originally intended orimplemented, but it obviously needs some tweaking to make the profession effective.

Regardless of the method of my killing, Ranger should be able to cut a swathe through any animal that comes before him. Small creatures are an annoyance to the Ranger, while larger creatures area honourable challenge. Ranger is the expert at killing animals, no other combatant should be able to kill an animal as quickly and efficiently.

Ranger is the hunter, the gatherer. Skilled harvesting of animals means the Ranger can collect every available ounce of usefull resource from an animal, to sell for a sizeable profit of course.

Rangers can find whatever they are looking for with ease. Whislt other inhabitants of the galaxy might require them to got to the local town authority to find lairs of viscious creatures, the Ranger can easily slip into the wilderness and track whatever he is looking for.

I like to understand my role as a preserver, maybe a hunter. Never thought of myself as an elite-type fighter.

Then again, that's just my personal playing-style

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.

I can't decide if I'd rather have us be creature centric/outdoorsman/PVE support,orPVP support. It'd beubar to have both, but that just won't happen. I think perhaps we could compromise the pvp part. Make us the ultimate hunter, while granting us stealth for non-combat related PVP support (setting up traps and reconaissance).

A survey/discussionsounds like fun. And this thread already seems to be becoming one so we might as well make it the thread.

Personally, I like having multiple roles for a Ranger. Wayfaring would be for recon (i.e. stealth and speed). Frontiering would be for surviving in the wilderness and for making the wilderness comfortable for people (i.e. less downtime and less dangerous). Tracking could turn back into Hunt Master, giving us abilities that would make for a good wilderness guide (like /track to find big game). And Trapping would give us some useful skills for combat (like ground traps that give us a great advantage in a fight as long as we remember to prepare).
