Camps: still have unrealized potential, but the HTFB is pretty cool and has the same heal modifier as a med centre.
Camo Kits: you mentioned this already, but camo kits are great in my opinion. Especially on planets like Lok and Dath that have NPCs all over the place.
Other than that though, there's not real HUGE advantage. The traps for ranger are not the most useful. If you're only here to harvest and you don't want to get knee deep in the ranger profession, don't bother with the other skill points. You'll complain that the grind is slow and painful adn then drop the skill eventually anyway.
Don't get me wrong, I love Ranger. But it's been said before... Ranger is more of a lifestyle.
[edit] and another cool advantage... being among the Master Ranger elites. A rare and coveted tag to wear above your head!

Are you a Master Rifleman? If so, I know a lot of Rangers use this template successfully.
JBMat will tell you that a tank droid works just as well as expending all those points in CH. I am personally a Master CH/Ranger 0030 and that works well too. It really depends on what you enjoy doing! You can try out CH on the way to Master Ranger and if you don't like it, drop it and go on up Master. I have a Ranger on Test Center that is going for Master Ranger/Master Rifles/CH 0003 and I find that thoroughly enjoyable as well.

You also get +10 to melee + rangeddefense at Master. Not a great deal but still worth mentioning.

You can get some real BE monsters even as a non-CH. However these are frowned on as being seriously unnatural and edging on exploitive in the CH circles. I think if you go to a good BE and explain what you want they can make you a really nice tank for your level. And make sure you get pet stims too.

Any tree of 3 CH boxes will get you up to level 19, which is plenty for a good tank. Even a non-BE tank is ok. I use a natural (ie non-BE!) Mottled Wrix. Level 18, 25% Kin and Energy resists, 4500 HAM. In fact I use 2 as I am CH x4x4, but as Master Rifles 1 of them would be enough unless you have a HUGE thing to kill.
And they cost me nothing but the guts to wander amongst red dots and tame them!
Hooray for mask scent!

Screw CH, get droids for tanks and use the extra points in something useful.
Droids attack, don't run, and NO SKILL POINTS.
