Question for the Ranger Rifleman among us.
I getting very close to my 250000 rifleman xp and I will have to choose between Sniping2 or Counter-Sniping2, the only reason I’m thinking about getting C-S2 is for the DXR-6.
Now is the DXR-6 worth the accuracy +15, aiming +15 and conceal +15 of the Sniping2?
Thanks for the help

The rifles forum might be a better place to ask this, but...
The major benefit of the DXR-6 is that it does acid damage. I think it's also a good rifle to grind up the rest of rifles.
Are you not planning on mastering rifleman? Or are you just trying to decide which to get first? I'd say go for the box that gives you the DXR.

and although the dxr is a fine rifle (looks sooo much better then the t-21), it will NEVER outdamage the T-21, so even if your creatures has a high level of eneryg resists (t-21) it will almost always do as much or more dmg as the dxr (not on 80-100% energy resist off course, but that kind of resist is usually found on high level mobs, then you need a tanker, then but a e.g. java or cold rifle).
Not to mention that the dxr is expensive compared to the t-21.

CS2 also gets you one box closer to an AoE attack, if I remember right. Been a while since I was a rifleman.

Go for Sniping 2... a helluva lot better to hit something then spray the area around it with acid from your new toy!
Plus (I may be wrong on this) Sniping 2 gives you HeadShot3, which when used in conjunction with MindShot2 is very powerful.
I went to Sniping 3, then got Counter-Sniping 2 (cuz a guild mate gave me a DXR6b!) then finished sniping line, worked on conter-sniping and am now finishing up the concealment line, all the while, adding to my abilities line.
They're right about the T21 outdamaging the DXR6b tho....

Pickup the Counter Sniping 2 as this will give you an extra damage type early on. The best benefit from the DXR-6 is its high accuracy at 50m along with low speed. Regardless of what others might say you want to get to Flushing 2 (AoE and stuns your targets [drops their primary defense]) as soon as possible for the area attack and the benefits from this attack. Another thing you want to do is pickup Conceal Shot under the Assassin tree as this will allow you to attack stuff without them agroing on you. It's a very handy skill to possess and almost a necessity when it comes to higher end agros and solo work.
Assuming that you're training all of your speed line as the combat xp comes in (another big thing you want early on) and eventually you'll gain access to another useful area attack which is Flurry 2 that will startle and dizzy your targets. Very useful on NPCs who have low resist against dizzy and if done right you can get them to do the dizzy dance (so dizzy they can't stand up) leaving you with an easy kill. The only real benefit from Sniping aside from accuracy is Head Shot 3 though as handy as it is there is a huge delay on this attack. Also the attack doesn't hit for as high as Flushing 2 and Strafe 2 at master levels nor is it an AoE attack. One other note to keep in mind is that you'll suck really bad until master with Rifleman. Rifleman is one of the few professions that is at its best at master which gives you the rest of speed, accuracy and most of all bumps your damage up almost double what you do at 4/4/4/4.
I've been a Master Rifleman since November of '03 and the only profession I haven't dropped as it is the most appealing to me. For about 6 months I was Master Rifleman / Master Ranger and found this to be one of the best combinations for harvesting large amounts of resources as we have a good selection of damage types along with gaining the ability to single pull agros when we attack them from 50m+ away (this doesn't work for AoE attacks). TKM isn't a bad profession to run with Master Ranger (assuming you're going master) as this gives you the ability to stand up to pretty much everything in game and the added bonuses from Tracking allow us to drop the creature faster than the non-rangers. My current build (pending the Ranger Revamp) is Master Marksman / Master Rifleman / Ranger 0/0/3/0 and Novice Medic. Rifleman are speed capped at Master Marksman (without spending tons of credits for attachments) and that boosts our damage output by 30% - 50%.
One more thing then I'll go lurk back to the Rifleman forums is that once you gain access to Flushing 2 (Counter-Sniping 3) you can run a macro which might or might not be of big help as it will cause you to agro creatures on you but help you take them out fast for harvesting and quick xp. At master rifles it works rather well and helps drop pesky agros who feel the need to try to rush my toon.
/target self;
/ui action cycleTargetOutward;
/flushingshot2;
/pause 1.5;
/flushingshot2;
/ui action toolbarSlotXX;
Now the letters that are capital (TargetOutward and Slot) must be capital when you write them up for your macro or they won't work. Also, you can adjust the pause time if needed to help for lag issue and to insure you don't overfill your combat queue. You can also strip out the last /flushingshot2 and just have it continue on to the loop part (/ui action toolbarSlotXX) as I just do the extra flush for good measures. The toolbarSlotXX refers to the button on your quick bar which starts from 00 - 11 and the lower row being 12 - 23. This is in left to right fashion so this means that your first box on the top row on the left side would be called toolbarSlot00 and the last one on the right in that same row would be called toolbarSlot11. (**I'm assuming that those who read this might not know how to or haven't ever created a macro before**) An interesting side note and reason why I tend to use Flushing 2 more than Strafe 2 is that both attacks are AoE attacks but they also do exactly the same amount of damage. The big difference is that Flushing 2 stuns where as Strafe 2 doesn't meaning that I can lower the agro's (or player's) primary defense if I drop the stun state on them. Interestingly enough the best chances for landing a stun state using Flushing 2 on anything that might have high resists is to use a stun weapon such as the Jawa Ion Cannon.

i have to go with counter sniping 2 becase the dxr is the best weapon in the game. yes the t-21 has ap3 and does a little more dmg but alot of high end creatures like rancors are particularly weak against acid. also the dxr is faster and more accurate than the t-21. and as we all know rifleman move like they are waring concrete shoes and our guns way 100 pounds until master when we are all of a sudden bad a$$

A few words of advise as I'm dropping in here (My alt was a Master Ranger... does that count? I was going to come back to it when they revamped it... left a year ago :-( ).
If you don't have somebody to tank for you (keep critters far away), you can still grind Rifleman, but here's what I did. Sniping 4, then CS, then Conceal. The trick, though, is accuracy food. Pick up a crate of Citros Snow Cake and eat some while you are grinding. You will have decent accuracy, even against creatures that come up to point blank with you. I found this to be very helpful when I did Master Rifleman.
And a few words of encouragement: when you hit Master, you get much better than you had ever been. This has to do with the way speed is calculated... as you near +100 speed, which is the cap for all professions (Master Rifleman is +90 without mods, as opposed to +70 for non-master, I believe) your speed increases exponentially. In other words, going from +30 to +50 is a lot less of a difference than going from +70 to +90. So hang in there for master. You'll enjoy it.

Yay! Great advice folks! Am currently working my way through Rifles and, every so often, find myself getting really disheartened and cursing the profession as a total albatross round my neck. But for me it IS the accompaniment to Ranger that want and folk giving good advice, like you all just did, helps me get back out there!
cheers!
(Oh, and I went the CS line first, got myself a couple of nice nice DXR's and have been, literally, having a blast. No other reason than I wanted the toy
