Thread: Wise words...
While this does not directly apply to us, it is certainly something to keep in mind when deciding how to approach the devs with issues.

I agree with Garva. Now, I'm really trying to stay positive here and be more upbeat, but, IMHO, Rangers really have exemplified what Garva is talking about here - historically at least. The ideas and suggestions that you, Owen, JB, and Paks put together are presented in what I think Garva would think of as a prime example of presentation. Moreover, the broader Ranger community has also displayed examples of this on a regular basis. Where has this gotten us?
I like what is being preached by Garva there but sometimes it just feels like the practical application strays from the ideals set forth in the theory.
We talk and talk about how great a community we are and how we need to present our ideas in a clear and constructive manner in order for Rangers to get a Revamp or even a few hotfixes and that craying and complaining in ALL CAPS and L337 SP3AK do nothing - that all makes sense. But still, look at our profession.
After a while it just feels like "nice guys finnish last", making the option of being a "jerk" more and more tempting.
I don't know, maybe the Corrs are privy to knowledge that abates my concerns here, but this is how I'M feeling about things.

this is most of my reply from that thread:

What is happening here, seems to be similar to things that have happend in the Ranger Community. We have SOOOOOO many GREAT threads on what can be done to our profession to make the community happy, but where has it gotten us? NOWHERE! only when the entire community is thrown into an uproar (but still a very civilized uproar) did anything get done.
And that is now what we are seeing here in the GCW. The problem Mr. Garva, is with you and the Red Names. You guys never respond to the good threads. Only the bad ones. So what do you get? People going overboard to get attention because that appears to be the only way to get it. Maybe if the Developement team would respond to the players more, then things wouldn't get out of hand????? just a thought.

___________________________________________If the Dev's and Admin posted more in the GOOD threads, then would that not encourage that post style more? But your garunteed to get Dev or Admin feedback for doing BAD stuff??? The Dev's and Admin have a major role in why there are so many negative posts........because they get the feedback, good or bad.
I agree with this. I wish the developers would do more trawling for good or interesting ideas. But unfortunately when a dev posts to something people tend to take it as a "promise." If Thunderheart had come on to the stealth thread and said "this is an interesting and well thought out idea Fred!" how much more bitter would we be feeling now that we did not get it?
Dev feedback, positive or negative, is always a double-edged sword. Every single thing they say is likely to be pulled out months and months later and pointed to as a promise, even though we all know that schedules, priorities, and knowledge shift constantly.
So while I desperately want to see more red names chatting it up on the forums, the idea of it happening also makes me nervous for the future bitterness level of the board.

I agree ![]()
We do read the boards and try to interact as much as possible, but I'm looking for the best avenue for positive interaction. For that I need the community's help.

/cringe For fear of my life, I will still say this...
/points at a certain thread that is almost 2 years old and was made by someone no longer employed by SOE/LA (or at least isn't involved in the game anymore) yet still gets drug up.

Well I have to say that on the ranger boards its not difficult to find well-planned, well-thoughtout, well-presented ideas on how the profession can be improved and these have existed for years now!

I posted a thread just a few hours ago with this in mind. It's constructive, has good input from the community, and absolutely positively no flames... but because I felt that the only way a Dev would read it was if they thought it was bannable.. I titled it "Do we even have any Dev's anymore?"
Thunderheart, for almost 2 years I have been watching Dev tracker. Reading GCW, BH, Jedi boards. Now I stick to Ahazi and Pilot boards because those previous are mainly flaming messes now.
Us pilots have issues, but I can't remember the last time a Dev stopped in there. I know how hard you guys work, it's a lot A LOT of stuff that needs to happen in SWG. I compiled and listed every single professions top 5 list in my thread and still there were no flames. It's a beautiful thing to behold.
But as the above poster put it so well, many of us feel that we have to cause some form of controversey just to get any attention/comment at all.
For me two year veteran reward, could you and the other Dev's just do your best to communicate with us better? You've heard it before, no communication is much worse than bad communication.
