Thread: Is this a possibility? Change to Camo?

Make Camo kits work like jedi Cloak or rifleman cover. Obviously when the ranger with the camo kit on attacks he is then visible. This would make an awesome addition to the profession without throwing off any kind of balance. Also make it so that peopel in your group don't break your camo by getting too close but if someone outside your group does get within 15m then you lose the camo. What do you all think?

hmm, guess where this quote (or so) came from:

We will not implement a skill that removes the player from the radar or screen as it will be too unbalancing. It can be potentially exploited, and would be too hard for us to code technically. Also, the issue of how much information, if any is sent to the client is tricky.

What was it? A few weeks later:

I area tracked a CSR today, and when I got to where he should have been, he wasn't there! I asked the CSR, and he told me he was cloaked, and I couldn't tell anyone about this.

The CU:

Riflemen and Jedi can now cloak themselves to remove themselves from the radar and screen.

Yeah, and that's it. (Like the camo green?)

Yea thats the thing, if these other two profs can have it why can't ranger? It makes ALOT more sense for a ranger to be able to hide himself than it does for a rifleman. Rifleman=can shoot a rifle. It does not mean he can hide himself. I can only cross my fingers and hope.

It wasn't originally technically possible, now it is.

When I asked if Rangers could have it, the answer wasn't a resounding "no" but "it's now technically possible" which isn't technically "yes, you're getting it" either.

When I asked if Rangers could be given burstrun as a toggle, they said they had to work around the current exploits with another profession that has a burstrun-like toggle before adding it to our plate of potential ranger-love.

I'm speculating that the same is probably true for conceal, they would like to give it to us with one of the upcoming publishes (probably has to be after or with the smuggler slicing mini-game for political reasons), but want to make sure the Jedi and Rifle versions aren't being exploited in some way (we only get it if it's proven not exploitable instead of letting us do the testing, bleh). Smugglers wanting to use their own version of concealment for smuggling players may also play into the "balance". Rangers and chance rolls (and maybe jedi senses) would be the only counters to smugglers using this skill. (this should be read as a pro-smuggler comment, we love you).

Smugglers should just be able to acquire fake passports for players, changing their name, factional status, etc for an amount of time.
