Sulphur Lake City, a small town of less than sixty on Lok, has had a big problem lately. Actually, about six big problems.
Kimogillas.
The members of the city, a Pirate Clan called the Stardust Fleet, are not exactly the best pirates yet. In fact, half of the residents are compltely berefit of combat skills, as they have been honing therepiloting to much to give thought to any skills they might have in their few hurs on the ground. Lately, a population of feral gurks made there home near the guild hall, and we quickly removed after the death of one clan member. However, not only did they return, but eventually they drew large groups of predators to the area.
A few nights ago, six Kimogillas of various sizes were spotted just on the outskirts of town. A group met at the city to try and takedown the enemies, lead by Goder Haunke, anprofessional carbineer and a very good aid in comabt.
However, they simly were not strong enough. The Kimogilla munched through the group as soon as it revoered from the chock of the first couple shots. A clan member found the decimated bodies in the street later that evening.
Something had to be done. The giant menaces had to be removed.
So in came the Ranger.
Gledako Fo'Kre, leader of the Stardust Pirate Fleet and an expert ranger and rifleman, was not the best at combat among the talented pilots in his group. But when it came to taking down big critters, he was the best handdown.
The guild, having cloned the recent fatalities and reviewing the information they remembered of the last assault, began the attack, and as usual, several lizard marched in for an easy lunch.
Then here comes Gledako, running over the sand plain to the north of the city. His rifle is slung over his back- as the fighters see him coming, the only thing they can think of is that he is running for more dragons just under the horizon.
But it isnt true. In fact, he is running right into the combat.
The ranger quickly grabs a Phenacine Dart from his backpack and throws it at the nearest dragon, follwing up with a few more traps to blind the creature. Then he moves to the other two critters, and running as hard as he can, draws them away from the battle.
Gledako was bitten twice, in the leg and head, and only think armor saved him from being killed instantly. He ran too fast and for too long though- he put a large distance between him and the dragons by racing up a hill, and the lizards, too tired too pursue, lost interest about half a kilometer away from the city. The ranger now applied complex camoflauge to himself, and by sneaking around the lazy lizards and a band of rival pirates, raced into the battle again.
The group was faring well with the Kimo. Although one member,a female human entertainer, had wandered to close to the moster and had been beheaded as a result, the trap Gledako had thrown before still held the critter in place. Throwing just a few more to be safe, the ranger went prone a good distance away fromt he dragon and started firing, aiming ffor his head.
It took only a few shots before the trapped animal was nearly dead. Gledako stood up and rsuhed the lizard, knocking him down with his rifle and delivering a killing laser to the head. The animal took one last gasp for breat, it's speeder sized tongue lolling about, and then exhaled its last fume of decaying breath.
The rest of the kimogillas, seeing their stricken leader, moved away from the city, and to date Sulphur Lake City has not had the plesure of playing host to another Kimogilla clan.

I really thoguht this was an awesome experiance- it has been something i have looked forward too without actually thinking it would happen. a ranger walking into a group and actually being a necesary member. Without the PDart, the critter would have eaten my guildees in seconds. And sure, PDart is NOT supposed to work that way, and as the devs said the root/snare effects will become less useful and non permanent soon, but I am happy I was able to have this experiance. SOme off the minor details may be off as this actually happened a while ago and i didnt quite get the time to write about it, but the essence of the story is this: withou tme, even the combat stacked CL 80 characters would have died. And that is a pretty neat thing to think about.

Very interesting, being CL64 and making it possible for CL80s to kill their targets.

/shakfist DEVs Making snares break on damage will pretty much make them useless. at least to me anyways.

Hey, don't take all the credit!
Yesterday I found three GDKs on the north side of the city. Two other guild members were in the city at the time so I made it my job to protect them. I snared one with a pdart...the two others attacked. Fortunately I was prepared for this effect (I've noticed traps ALWAYS cause the others to aggro) so I quickly snared them too. Eventually two kimos retreated and with the other paralysed it didn't take long for me cease its reign of terror.
I really like the way that Rangers can now live up to their role as 'defenders' of others, which has been stated many times in our descriptions. And on the topic of a snare nerf, there is a possibility it might not happen. I've heard the devs say they are going to be reducing the effect of "roots" but they have not mentioned anything about "snares", which is a state effect exclusive to scout traps (I may be wrong about this but it seems the devs have a tendency to forget about Rangers and Scouts).

Gah! They came back? Oh well, nice work. Once we get a shuttle our artisans will stop dying hopefully. But Drew installed a cloner just in case
And about them forgetting scouts and rangers... it is about time it started working for us! I guess every cloud does have a silver lining after all.

Odd... traps NEVER cause other members of the pack to aggro for me. Tossing a glow wire is how I pull one at a time. Do you have auto-attack enabled?
