Alright, long story short, I used to be a Master Ranger a long time ago, before the dark times, before the holo-grind, before the CU.....After grinding out Jedi, and re-spec'ing this toon to try lots ofprofs I didn't like, I've decided to take advantage of the final re-spec to come back to the prof I enjoyed the most, Master Ranger (hopefully this doesn't upset anyone, I did grind it legitimately once at least). I haven't been one for over a year at this point, and have some questions about what's changed since the CU:
1) Does Ranger have any effect on combat level? What health and combat level can I expect with a Master Ranger/Master Combat Prof template?
2) Judging from the threads I've read, Master Rifles/Master Ranger or MBH/Master Ranger seem like the most popular double master combos. Am I understanding this right?
3)Is there any viability to a non-double mastery Master Ranger template? Or would I be too gimped by my CL and Health?
Any answers or other advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

What health and combat level can I expect with a Master Ranger/Master Combat Prof template? It sure does! At Master Ranger, Master Combat Prof, you are CL 80 and have 3000 (give or take) health.2) Judging from the threads I've read, Master Rifles/Master Ranger or MBH/Master Ranger seem like the most popular double master combos. Am I understanding this right?Well, the best profession is whatever fits your playstyle, but, these seem to be the most popular combos (I will say that I liked Carbineer when I was one, but I didn't have Ranger at the same time).3)Is there any viability to a non-double mastery Master Ranger template? Or would I be too gimped by my CL and Health?I am not exactly sure how it works, but as long as you have all your points sunk into combat skills (and Ranger), you will still be CL80 with max health, right? The potential problem with a mixed template is thepossible shortage of speed, accuracy, and defense mods, as well as fewer armor mitigations, if you use armor.Any answers or other advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks much for the answers Calculus. Good news, as I'd been assuming Ranger didn't factor in combat level. I'm still struggling with weather to go with Pistoleer or BH as my support proff. Looking forward to coming back to the fold.

I've been both professionswith Ranger (always have Ranger). Pistoleer is good and I happen to like that using Pistols brings you up pretty close. That said, BH is awesome. It gives you the freedom to use pistols, carbines or rifles (for instance, I switch it up between my FWG5 & Proton Carbine). It also gives you freedom when it comes to your skill points. You can play around a bit.
Really, it's about fun. I like how BH gives ya good defenses... when I hunt in groups, I find that critical shot and torso shot are good damage dealers (and underhand shot is a nice kd move) and you can more than hold your own. Even solo, it's decent.
But that's just me.

That's nice to know. I'm leaning towards BH now, mostly for the extra skillpoints it allows. I could take novice artisan, and be able to survey and drop harvestors while I'm out hunting to fill the down time, and increase my earning potential.
