most of the crap doesnt even spawn until you are right on top of it.....

you go xxx meters away to where it says the creatures are supposed to be and they arent there ....

mask scent breaks on even the most elementary critters.......

2/5 traps work........

This profession should be a perfect complement to me as a Master CH, what a friggin disappointment.

What the hell good is Ranger? I chose this profession cause it looked like a good one to have, I thought that being a Ranger, I could help out my group mates find the critters that we are looking to hunt. It SHOULD be a profession that EVERY group would like to have along for the hunt. I can find critters better by just running around and waiting for luck to strike and find the critter that I am hoping to tame

Seems like another botched profession

Maybe you can take a second and check out the State of Profession post.. Most of your complaints are adressed there, and hopefully will be adressed by the devs when hell decided to freeze over.

regarding the spawning.... this is truly a pain for everyone, not just rangers.

Joe Crafter runs up to his seemingly safe harvester to do his thing... opens harvester, takes a look at the days take, examines the resources..

BAM!

20 red mobs pop right on top of him. Welcome to the cloning facility.

I'm not smart on how all this works, but from how I understand it:

The game doesn't spawn mobs/camps unless there's someone around in order to save on performance. which is diametrically opposed to the ranger profession and associated abilites.

sucks, huh?

There are a bunch oftricks to using tracking effectively -

Stand still and watch your radar - you'll see the 'terrain' gradually increase in detail and mobs etc. 'pop' in. Once it's stable then do the areatrack.

If you just run in and track you'll find zip since your client doesn't know about the MoBs.

Also watch for zone boundaries - there is overlap and results can go screwy as mobs can be reported in the 'dead-zone' between servers (you never reach them because you move to the other server before getting there - if you see what I mean!)

Basically tracking is just a very rough guide - don't expect spot-on results (the technology isn't up to it).

Best of luck!

I am a Master Ranger and Master CH. They do go together well. Yes there are those very frustrating times when it seems nothing in the Ranger skills is working worth, well you know like what. But I have had times when they have worked very well, and being a CH does work very well with it.

Greetings,

I know it’s slightly off topic, but EverQuest had accurate, from-me-to-the-target tracking that was updated every 5 seconds. Sorry, but it makes me prickle when the Devs make it sound like things are impossible and the players believe it. When a five year old game can do something better than a brand new one, it really makes you wonder. But I’ve digressed.

The trick to enjoying your ranger (and by this, I mean using the skills in a way that doesn’t end with you wanting to bang on your head on the wall) you have to think outside the proverbial box. If you poke around on the Forums here (the advanced search is worlds better than the simple one) you’ll find great tactics to use with our three working traps, and tips on how to make tracking actually ... track things (sort of). Once you get the hang of it all, you’ll find that it’s not as bad at it seemed - you just gotta stick with it, and learn to look at life with your head tilted sideways. Hang in there, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the class, its really a ton of fun!

Geeze, you are right. Rangering sucks, always has, always will.

By golly, you should drop it and never become one again.

There, your negative feelings have been reinforced. You feel better about yourself even tho you can'thang inone of the best professions in the game.

We now return to more productive posts....

Trap tactics would be an interesting topic. I'd like to know how long a period of time the Glow-Wire makes the target easier to hit with both melee and ranged attacks. I've got to find those "tips on how to make tracking actually...track things".
