Thread: Ranger Camp Idea

Maybe this is a silly pet peeve, but.

We can all email from anywhere on any planet without any special equipment or skills.

Why can't a season'd ranger generate a camp that taps into the global wireless network for a mission terminal, or reduced functionality mission/banking terminal?

I understand the concept of 'Damnit Jim, We're Rangers, not Network Technicians', but the technology already seems to be there (speaking in game) so adding that to a camp shouldn't be that far fetched.

I understand that selling things from the field, or using a safe deposit box would be difficult, but I don't think we're walking around with a wallet full of paper creds either. I'd assume it's some kinda credstick concept. If that's the case, trasnferring creds to/from this stick remotely should be possible. Also, placing bids, or just checking on auctions remotely, should, again be possible. You'd have to go to the base station to pick stuff up (unless it's a schematic).

These 2 little things, even if it's a high end camp option, would make me a much happier ranger. I don't know if it's on the same level as fixing/enhancing ranger traps, fixing forage to give exp, or any of the other massively useful sounding suggestions here (like putting bone in the examine pane, or letting scouts/rangers harvest from all 3 pools from 1 animal like the in game tip says you can do, but you really cant) but I thought I'd throw it out there because I haven't seen it mentioned yet.

-Vantor. Naritus' only wookie ranger (I dunno if that's true, but it feels like it most days ).

I'm not sure I'd have any great use for this, but what the heck. The High Tech Field Camp already has a bloody great satellite dish protruding from the top of the awned dome building, which is currently just as dysfunctional as the rest of the camp scenery.

Mission terminal wouldn't be NEARLY as useful as having your High Tech Base Camp appear on the Planetary Map when errect.

As an ex-Ranger, I always thought something was missing from camps...

As a Creature Handler, I find that I always have 10k HAM pets with no HAM left. Healing them is a big drain on medics and myself. Of course pets do regenerate HAM over time, but because their secondary stats are on the order of <50, they regen so slow that the regen process is multihour process.

An idea I had today was that perhaps ranger camps, and the higher level the camp, the bigger the bonus, give a bonus toconstitution, stamina and willpower to allplayers and creatures in the camp. This would make players regen faster (faster healing, faster buffing, etc) and creatures regen faster. The deal here is that I believe this would make Rangers highly sought after for hunting groups because it would provide an excellent way to regen pets. In addition, this would provide a great bonus to Ranger camps which have little real bonuses over the high end Scout camp.

Further, I would not think this to be a hard coding issue for the Developers (that is a big key...asking for hard to code items means you never get them).

Thoughts?

But it's a great idea

You mean a request such as:

  • Request that the healing modifier of camps be applied to natural HAM damage recovery on Creature Handler pets and Faction pets.

Things like that do get a little lost in your 300 lines of our wish-list.

I agree though, this would rank in the top as one of my prefered additions.

In my very short time as a correspondant, it has become very clear to me that when presenting an issue to the Devs, either be VERY specific or expect nothing. This is why I specifically suggested camps increase con, stam and willpower. Have the first camp at novice ranger give +100, +200 for the field base and +400 for the high tech field base.

Basically, I think too much info is being thrown at the Devs and unless your idea is obvious and easy to implement it has no chance of going live. Saying vague things like our specials are broken or our class has no meaning will get zero from the Dev. Saying special "killerhitofdoom2" is doing 1 point of damage. Can QA check on this? seemed to work out much better.

Make sense?

Ok...

Are you suggesting that some of our requests are too vague?

  • If so, I encourage everyone to point them out and offer a more specific request.

Mostly though, I tend to believe that Designers like to actually come up with their own solutions to problems...

  • And GreenMarine is first and foremost a Designer.

So I leave it up to the developers to figure out the details, while we provide the general request.

Now in the case of bugs, the opposite is true...

  • The more detailed information we can provide, the better chance the QA team will be able to reproduce it and fix the error.

I would just like to say that I am not, have never been, nor shall I ever be a "chap". Oh, and I agree that this should be an addition. Another thought that popped into my head - how about being able to choose the type of crafting station that you have at the high-level camps (this may actally be in the game- please no flames if it is, I apologize =p ) anyway, that would allow you to have a general crafting tool instead of a food & chem so if you are soloing and not making meds, you have a place to make more camo kits. Just a thought.

WE NEED RANGERS ON TC.

listen. I apologize for the all caps. But seriously. TC players look me up-- Phenix or Armani

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

"nor shall I ever be a "chap""

Hmmm... More Politically Correct you say?

How abouts "non-gender specific persons of any race or origin"?

"how about being able to choose the type of crafting station that you have at the high-level camps"

That is a cool idea, and I believe it is part of the huge modular crafting proposal...

  • How exactly would you want to be able to select the station? An optional component that could dropped into the schematic, or something else?
