Fellow Rangers,
I am pushing this idea around the forums to get some feedback.
I posted it on my server fourm her is the link..
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Chilastra&message.id=146865
Here is the skinny (from post link above)-------------------------------------
I was wondering what the interest is in having a Ranger guide on Krayt hunting expeditions.
My idea is:
- To scout good locations and assemble in the nearest city (with a Shuttle port). Or I will e-mail a contact list (see below) a waypoint to my camp near the dragon.
- Setup an advanced camp (or Field Base, when I get that skill)
- Apply camo to each member (Ranger camo kits are an advanced Mask Sent that can be applied to other players).
- Offer my gun and a pet in the Hunt.
- Offer novice medic services (in camp, not on the hunt)
I would only ask for 1K tip from each member of the group. Additional camps are fine with me (I can use the XP but not critical). I will share the harvest and loot as normal. This will be a neutral party (so if you arrive overt and decide to PvP please leave group first)
Further…
To avoid spamming for group members in town I though of creating a friends list I could send an e-mail to when a good hunting location is discovered. So when I do get a good spot I send a mail and open a public chat channel.
Here is the concept:
You’re playing and you get a “Karyt Alert” mail from me with a waypoint, chat channel name, and a reply by time. You enter the chat channel or reply to the mail and let me know if your coming and your ETA. At X time the group is assembles and we hunt.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Has anyone been paid for this type of service. I did get a tell once that I would get paid if I could find a Karyt for a group. So this got me thinking about this.
Thanks,

Truly this would be something that Rangers SHOULD be able to make money at in this game.. however....
Problem: A single scout has less chance of causing a Krayt to spawn. The spawn system it directly tied to activity in the area. The devs didnt want Krayts spawning someplace nobody would find them. This is stupid. Same things goes for all animals actually, but it makes more sense (only a little more) in this case. There must be people in an area to GET a Krayt to spawn in the first place. And if people ARE in an area and they spread out, they can probably find a Krayt faster than a Ranger can due to the problems with the /areatrack command. There are blind spots and limited range with that command.
If they changed the system so that Krayts/Kimos/Peko Albatross could spawn ANYWHERE on their respective planets, then you would see more of them spawning near populated areas in which case you really wouldn't need a Ranger to find them cause someone would be like "Hey look at that dragon" all the time.
What they need to do is make them spawn in many different locations and traffic in the area should have no bearing whatsoever. Take a large number of spots on each planet and rotate spawns among them so that its harder for joe-schmo to find the ones not next to the Bestine Starport, and easier for Rangers to track them in the wild because they are THERE. Changes need to be made to tracking skill increasing range and effectiveness as well of course.
Here is a way to viably expand on your hunting guide idea though...
Lets say you have a group of people looking for herb meat on Endor... They can get missions, but running back and forth to the mission term is a waste of time. Make a forward scouting trip, waypoint all the wild spawns of Bordocks, Bolle Bols, etc. As your group runs their first round of missions, the Ranger is available to say "Hey, got a couple of wild spawns to the east, about 250m." You can continue to track for new spawns, but you dont look like an idiot because you can't find something thats not there.
I am not saying the Krayt thing won't work, it WOULD work very nicely if the spawn system didnt work the way it does.

Pathe,
Thanks for the feedback. I'll see if it pans out, if it does well I'll post my results to the Ranger forum.
