My thoughts on my chosen path as Creature Handler/Ranger, since I asked you I'll share my reasons and feelings (and yeah I do tend to slip into character as I typed it)
Profession Breakdown
Base:
· Marksman: 4/0/0/4 (current 4/1/1/3)
· Scout: Master
Advanced:
· Creature Handler: Master (current 0/1/1/1)
· Ranger: Master (current 1/0/3/1)
(4pts left, will most likely use them on force skills that aid in harvesting or creature handling)
This is my character's bio:
Guided by her innate love of the wilderness. Tailisa would rather spend time out in the wilds than in the cities.
Can be soft and gentle when she wants to be, and mean as the gurrcat she raised from a kitten as a child... damn she misses that cat.
Disliking the rebels for using pristine wilderness as their hiding places, and the imperials for the unnecessary damage they do to weed out the rebels in their wilderness strongholds.
She wishes this galactic war would end, so her favorite places could recover and again be peaceful places of wild beauty.
Okay the meat:
My decision is based partly on role-playing and mostly on the fact I want to explore the star wars universe, not compare uber loot and kill counts with others. Once I get my professions mastered I plan on trying to get every badge in the game, that I can without having to be a faction member (then again I may just go faction to get the badges and drop them, but feel that this would be an insult to those that actually choose those factions).
Some people complain that the classes I have selected to master are worthless, and for pvp they mostly are (but then again I dislike pvp so no big deal :-P ). But in pve they are good, and not overpowered like some out there (I feel no single character should be able to solo most of the stuff in the game. Some of you may feel different, but this is all my opinion). So most consider my character a support character able to provide distractions/tanks with my pets, harvest organic resources for crafters, track targets, and provide camps to recover in. My character can and does do all of those things, and she can also mask scent so you get aggroed in terrain that slows you to a crawl and hinders her not... so be polite folks (not a challenge, but a fact to consider. I will leave annoying folks out in the middle of nowhere and wander off to explore at my leisure. And if paid up front I will refund your money if I am hired to track for you).
Speeders v mounts...
Well I prefer to use a mount unless I am in a real big hurry; mounts allow you to see more of the wildlife out there (you don't speed past spawns before they show up). Also a mount represents your connection to the wild, a speeder is lifeless metal that gets you from point a to point b in a short period of time. Mounts even though they are simple ai's can seem to develop their own personalities (course this is partly just noticing the little things that were programmed in that most don't notice) and show a bit about their owners as well (Yes, even the non-roleplayers show their personalities in their selection of mounts). Sure I have speeders (2 swoops I switch out if one gets too far decayed, and 1 landspeeder that I may give away soon), and I have been keeping my eye out for a bol and a cu pa to tame and mount (wish we had a cat-like mount) simply because I like them more than most of the others.
BE or Wild...
Now this is a touchy subject, not only does it affect creature handlers it also affects the bio-engineers. I use some BE creatures, but plan to replace them with wild ones when I can. I feel a greater sense of accomplishment when I use a wild creature that I have tamed versus a bio-engineered creature. Part of this is the fact I searched out and found the little baby, tamed it (usually under the noses of some nasty protective parents), and watched it grow as I taught it. Sure I can watch the BE pets grow as well, but they are made in a lab...there is just something that seems to keep nagging me about them. Sure the BE pets are insanely more powerful and such, but I prefer wild ones. They remind me more of mockeries of the true creatures out there than anything. Soon I hope to have none, but if any other creature handlers are around I will hand them off to those that need and can use them (with the catch that you don't rename them). They may only be data, but they have and will be by my side as I travel to keep me safe.. And that means giving them a chance to keep on going instead of being destroyed.
Equipment/Weapon/Armor selection:
Once again another touchy subject.
I have a set of un-sliced ubese and a set of cheap mabarai. Both spend their time in the bank more often than not.I wear a custom BE outfit that looks good on my toon, and aids in my path. Specifically (in a olive green color scheme): Spec-ops Duster (+13 camouflage/mask scent, +13 tame wild/vicious creatures), Light Bustier (+13 tame wild/vicious creatures), Paramilitary Camos (+13 camouflage/mask scent), Sturdy Boots, Fingerless Gloves, Light-Weight Military Travel Pack, Mabarai Armorweave Belt (mainly for any good high bonus armor attachments I acquire).
As for weapons I carry un-sliced weapons, specifically: a jawa ion rifle, a laser rifle, and looking for a good SG82 rifle (good energy, stun, and cold damage types). All are powered up with good power-ups.
For misc gear I carry a fishing pole (scored a 100% one cheap), a couple crafting tools, stims (got novice medic right now), brandy (specials are mean on the mind), 1-2 camp kits, traps (usually just glow-wire stacks), a crate of bofa treats for the pets, neutron pixie for emergencies (keep 1 out of the crate as a quick boost when I need it). Tend to buy vegash and such as I feel like wasting the money… see little real benefit to it. Sure I can harvest a little more (even with the BE versions) but not enough to justify the costs in my opinion. May splurge on the almond treats to help with creature taming, for getting those rare and powerful critters.
As for droids, well getting 5 DZ70s with 10-item storage and a Weapon, Droid & General Crafting Station built in. Mainly because I need the storage capacity they offer.
As for her lots, I have a deed for a small generic house in the bank. Looking at maybe getting a medium or large house instead. Defiantly looking towards getting a factory or gaining access to one in order to do factory runs of camps and traps. (Maybe camo kits).
And when someone asks why you play a broken profession ask this (especially if it is by someone paying you :-P ):
And if we are broken, why are we getting paid so much to hunt for resources, track down specific creatures or targets?

Well said as a Master CH/Master Ranger it looks good. I chose pistoleer 3/0/0/0 for my leftover points. But then im not normal. I did it so i could hit my pets with pet stims.
But otherwise your write is well done.

I chose Ranger because I am an Explorer. SGW allowsquite a bit of interaction in the game environment expecially so for Ranger than most other MMOrpgs.
As in the general concept of Ranger I can sneak about, build camps that help slef/others with resting, crafting and even allow me to call for faction items from my camp terminal, hunt creatures with bonus' to Ranged weapons etc etc. I like this in SWG, it would be nice to see more of this in Fantasy MMOrpg's in the future too.
I prefer to Snipe in my hunts, crawling about is just so cool to me. So I am a Rifleman, who is more a sniperand I use the biggest gun I can, T21 and have loaded my clothes/armor with rifle crawl speed, and cover etc. Don't have any maskscent items, conceal shot seems to work fine for me and I dont mind the slow hunt, I am a slow take my time type anyway. I like to see the grass sway in between shots hehe.
If I am travelling about I normally walk or ride a cupa, Bantha if I am in a mood to take it slow and get that ride the elephant feeling. You miss so much when you use a speeder, so I rarely use mine since i got mounts.
I am a roleplayer 99% of the time, in the role of a Explorer/Hunter type. I pve mostly but will partake in rebel activity(am covert) when the call from guild or friends comes, and always help a downed rebel in towns when i come across them lyin in the dirt. Duel only when challenged and only withpeople who sound like they are rp'ing orpush it too far...
But most of the time I die in pvp, bein wookiee and mostly due to lack of uberness and mastery of combat prof.. will take along time for me to master rifleman.(which I have been since I started the game)
My role in the alliance is again, like Ranger; support, and sympathy due to the way Wookiee are treated in general and thefact that you can push around and enslave so many people before they stand up against the tyranny such asThe Empire.
Stormtroopers look like dumb cleaning droids, if I were Emperor I would give them dusters and mops and make em clean up the galaxy without blasters.. instead of tapping people on the shoulder and saying 'let me scan you for contraband' i would make those clone stooges ask people if they needed their toilets scrubbed!!

I originally intended Paks to be a Creature Handler. As she searched out babies to tame she just seemed to slip comfortably into the skills of a Ranger until that was more her persona then Creature Handler. Now I see Creature Handler as a natural extension of my Ranger creature knowledge. I can't really say for sure WHY she is so comfortably a Ranger, but I know when I dropped Master she lost a large chunk of her identity. That Master title may not give us much, but I seem to need it to fully enjoy playing with Paks.
I chose rifleman because Paks also needed a Bowcaster to feel complete.
Other eqipment? For the most part she runs around in just her fur.
So I guess I chose Ranger for the whole lifestyle thing.

well, i used to be a weaponsmith, but retired when I got a little bored of it and no longer had the time to put into it like i would have liked. Ranger seemed like a natural choice to me since I always have greatly enjoyed hunting and exporing, it's where my heart truly lies.
I started of as a rifleman, but have since switched to swordsman (just mastered it yesterday)
To me, swordsman and ranger just seem to go together. i'm a huge Lord of the Rings fan and I see Aragorn as the ultimate ranger, and he carries a sword so I thought I would pick up one too.
The reason I chose ranger is because:
- I don't care about PvP and just like hunting and exploring
- The ability to track stuff out in the wilderness is a great boost to hunting, never have to visit a mission terminal
For weapons, armor and clothing:
- I wear a spec-ops duster w/ +14 maskscent/camo (one in green, one in tan, and I change depending on which planet I'm on). Also, Black sturdy boots, black grenadier's belt (with defense vs. blind +3), black link-steel reinforced gloves, and a sunvisor hat in black. I wear a brown formfitting undershirt under all of this.
- For armor I either use a green suit of 80% kinetic resist composite (for big-game hunting, such as rancors) or a suit of brown ubese armor.
- For weapons, I carry a scythe blade with stats of 233-396/2.6 and 2 power hammers, one dmg sliced one speed sliced, but I'd like to get my hands on an acklay bone hammer sometime.
I also carry a few crates of camps, usually the improved camp kit and the high tech field base. Also carry a crate of vasarian brandy and vagnerian canape, a few crafting tools, fishing pole, and most of the rest of my inventory is filled with all the meat/hide/bone I harvest, which I sell whenever I feel like it. I plan on making a few crates of dathomir camo kits soon.

I dont normally reveal Korrokk's background but as I have already done so once in game when he was drunk, I may as well do it here.
A downed freighter crashes into the Dune Sea on Tattoine. Found by Jawa Engineer's amongst the wreckage of a freighter, suckling on the teet of a Veermok mommy, Korrokk was for his formative years treated as a wild animal and caged with the rest of the simian like creatures the survived the crash.
As a youth, and being easily trained by an astute Jawa, Korrokk soon displayed his difference tot he other caged beasts and was eventually allowed to roam about outside his cage on all fours on a leash. When the day came that he spoke a jawa word after a severe beating, he stunned his captors and broke his chains and ran off yelling in Jawa, what he thought was the name of their Deity. "Ortini!"
Foraging for food, eating bugs and scraps from left over carrion meals, he was found and tamed by a gentle old hermit. The Human was a rare and kind creature that taught the child wookiee the finer points of rustic living and to some degree how to survive in higher technological society. As the years drew on his Master and friend, one day gave him access to a galactic terminal. This was the day Korrokk started looking for his biological parents and the day he started on the path to solve the riddle of his origins. Knowing what he was, he sought to find who he was, who were his parents and more importantly who were his people.
His journey ended on Corellia where after 2 years of searching he found data disks containg the information ofn what happened to him as a child. A ships log had recorded that his parents were Spacers who traded and explored and sometimes hired their services to private parties. It was on their last mission that they encountered a Slaver convoy and a failed attempt to free captured slaves, ended up on their ship and all its contents being captured and commandeered by the slavers. One of the slaver friegthers that was picking up a cargo from tattoine was shot down by Pirates and was never recovered, all its contents were given over to the sands of tattoine and the scavengers that recovered them. The slavers were working under contract of the Empire, when he learned of this, Kor son of Rokk, calmly but determinedly signed up for Ranger duty among thecovert operationsranks ofThe Rebellion.

I have chosen the ranger profession when I just started to play about 3 months ago. Back then I didn't even completely understand what ranger was in SWG, but knowing that rangers are explorers was enough for me
Now I think that there is no better profession than ranger... well maybe rifleman is about on the same level
. So I don't really know why I chose a ranger, I like to explore and look at the stars. Most of the time I run around, and use speeders only if in a hurry.
Olinia, I really enjoyed your post. You ARE a perfect ranger. Please tell me that you are on Flurry, I will marry you!
(unless you are a guy in rl :smileywink
.
Rangers - we are but men!
Please exuse my poor english.

I often find myself asking just that... "Why oh why oh why did I become a Ranger...?"
Seriously though, I arrived in RangerLand after having been an artisan / tailor, doing marksman as a holo, then getting commando as my next holo. I don't quite know how to put it but I detest PvP, hated being factioned and getting killed with monotonous regularity and was seriously depressed at the thought of doing commando and then cripes alone knows what.
I'd found that the rangers I'd met over the preceeding months had been not just helpful but polite, respectful, interesting even. Getting resources for crafting had let my scout skills creep up and, wanting to get away from people for a while, I decided to master scout. Got that down pat, saw a little more of the galaxy, found I was spending less and less on buffs and less time in the clone shuttle and went back to a crafting profession.
I'd barely started on the grind for that when I realised I actually missed being out of doors, hunting, wandering about, being my own master, so I checked my template and realised I could get a start on Ranger.
Am now just slowly working towards Master, am in no rush. Taken the chance to tinker with CH, because i wanted a few pets and I was always ending up killing babies on nests. Going to master brawler as am over 70% complete there through trying different combat approaches against critters. Have tinkered with smuggler, twice, once for the spices and again for slicing.
Combat? At the moment I've got the brawler, fencer and swordsman lines in brawler, all of which have their advantages, none of which make me go 'oooh, this is what I want to do'. Marksman rifles and pistols, with enough xp to remaster marksman (other than a little carbines which dropped back to the cap).
I know roughly what template I want to end up with, am just getting there at my own pace, doing what I enjoy and having fun as I go.
I love going out on the hill, tracking out a group of rondo, popping a couple of pets and culling the herd. I harvest the meat and drop it off at my local docs, maybe run a couple of contract missions for coin, wander down through the bantha herds milking and collecting eggs, then head on out from Eisley with a group of novices getting some trapping xp and a bit of AP as I go.
Equipment? Where I can get it I prefer BE'd clothing to armour tho I've been wearing ubese recently as I like the look, lol. I carry a selection of weapons, most of them bought from the same WS over the past 6 months as I know he makes good gear at sensible prices. For the most part though I use a spraystick, laser rifle, scout pistols, Tusken rifle with poison DoT, a stone knife with poison DoT and crates of power ups.
Have got used to brandy recently and carry a little spice, jic I get stuck and need the boost to get out of trouble.
anyhow, 'ken is sat in a camp, drumming his heels and there are beasties out there waiting to be harvested..
Travel well, rangers,
see you out and about!

Well I suppose I chose Ranger because of all the time I spent as a bounty hunter way back when. This was before mounts, player cities and the POI system. Alot of the bounty hunters I knew back then always told me to stay away from Lok and Endor because the targets don't head to the cities like on the other planets. So my target would just be out wandering the country side. Wellas much asany part of Lok can be called the country side. So I finally start taking the missions to Lok and Endor. Endor usually wasn't too bad. 2 outposts kinda helped me out once I figured out which direction my contract was going in, but Lok I was always in for some kind of challenge. Nothing like huffing it on foot dodging aggroes while trying to catch up to some guy that might change directions at any given moment. Well anyways, on day I'm on the eastern side of Lok and I'm headed due south. Looks like my guy wants to hide in the volcano. When out of nowhere I come to the edge of a cliff. There it was. The big ass maze. I knew from that moment on that exploring was the thing for me. About 2 weeks later I created my character Gout and started my path to ranger. Slow start at first being I really wasn't trying to level up or anything but eventually I made it to master ranger and all was well with the world.
vehicles vs mounts
Tough call. I love plain 'ol speeder bikes. They're my favourite vehicles out of the movies. But I also love banthas. But I'd say I mostly use the speeder. Walking up hill on a bantha is funky. But whenever I'm on tat its all about him. Named him Corpse'run for all the fun times I had fetching my corpse from Fort Tusken back at launch.
Gear
Well I'm a wook and wook armor blows so I went rifleman just for concealshot. I use a laser and a T21 both unsliced and no pups. I barely have anything in my inventory so I still don't have a backpack. My full inventory at this moment is my clothes I'm wearing, my 2 rifles, 3 HTFB's, 9 various resources (some for my camps and traps and 2 for a contract for a doc) and a case of bio brandy.
Why do I play a broken profession? I thought we all did.

Rifle/Ranger
My vision of what a hunter would be in the swg universe, a rifle using master of the outdoors.
Im here for good, things WILL change for the better im sure, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Well I when I decided to create a different character, as I did not want to re-role my main, I created a Zabrak on Kettemoor and decided to build strictly a PvE character, focusing more on roleplay than anything...
So I chose to become a Master Ranger, and Master Pikeman, as I wanted to do something completely different from my other characters, but I did not want to do a crafting profession so I chose to go Ranger, as it is one profession that I had always wanted to try out, but never have until now.

I am currently a Master Brawler (which I picked up just for another badge, as well as it would help me out a bit with leveling Pikeman)
as well as 1,0,4,0 in Ranger
and 4,0,2,2 in Pikeman
with Novice Medic
My final build will be Master Ranger, Master Pikeman and once publish 10 comes out I will use my remaining 18 points for the melee and ranged defense, as well as the bonuses for harvesting, and possibly the bonuses for using speederbikes
As far as equipment goes I carry a Composite Chest Plate, 2 Vibro Lances (one dmg sliced the other speed sliced) and a Long Vibro Axe. I also have a full inventory of camps, traps and stims, a couple cases of brandy and stacks of hide, meat and bone...
I havent had the chance to find a good Tailor who does custom BE clothing on Kette, as Ive only been playing with this character for about 3 weeks or so...
So far I have really enjoyed leveling up in Ranger and Pikeman, as it allows me to do what I have always loved to do in the game, exploring and hunting. And I have enjoyed it so much that I rarely login with my Wookiee on Eclipse...

I'm Master Ranger, TKM, and novice CH with enough sp to get to 0/0/0/3.
I've spent many months crafting, which I thoroughly enjoyed (but wasn't a resounding commercial success), but had decided I needed more time out in the open. Much so much that some people fear I'm becoming feral!
My gear: composite armor minus biceps and bracers, stun/melee form fitting shirt. For taming I have BE camo pants and dustrider jacket each with taming and maskscent/camo bonus.
Since I loved crafting, I derive great joy supplying crafters with harder-to-acquire animal resources. Chefs love my meat-gathering skills, and Armorsmiths/tailors/architects love my hides.
Since having become ranger, I've done more diverse things which have made the game fresh for me: helping jedis track for elusive beasts, helping others find the npc's for the Hero of Tatooine quest, finding the large game with loot so many people lust for, assisting Bio Engineers with their DNA sampling work on Dathomir... the list goes on!
Oh I also like the idea that my High Tech Field Bases are cooler than most people's houses!

I chose the Ranger profession because I had no choice.
All I can remember was this red and yellowish flash, when I woke up there were burning bushes, some smoldering wreckage and bits and pieces of aluminum laying on the forest floor....
Not remembering who I was or where I came from, I wandered aimlessly (frightened) trying to seek aid.... at night the bushes moved, some times I could hear strange sounds in thedarkness. During the days I saw a lot of beasts at a distance, beast I had never seem before.
Hungry and exhaused, no help in sight, just strange noices all around me.. I knew it was a matter of time before I would end up as a meal for the carnivores in the area.. I gave up, let it be done I though and sat down and leaned towards a tree facing a crystal clear lake, beautiful flowers swinging with the breeze and with the harmony surrounding me I fell asleep....
I must have slept twelve hours... I awoke, opened my eyes and my heart froze with fear... I saw this huge furry head with black onyx like eyes staring at me !!! I though to myself, why couldn't I have slept through this carnage, when the beast held out its hands, offering me something that looked like mushrooms.
Confused, hungry and weak I accepted them and took a small bite thinking I was being poisoned... The mushroom was sweet and had the consistencyof dried apples. The furry creature seemed to smile at me seing that I enjoyed its food offering.
Wihilst I was eating the creature build a crude camp made out of bones and hideand then started a little fire to keep me warm, as night was approaching. The creature attempted to communicate, but failed miserably... It was pushing me back and forward like as if it was searching me for ticks... And then scurried away in to the forest without a word... (He was diagnosing me for wounds?)
I stayed in the camp, and though to myself that I would continue my search for civilization when morning approached. When I woke up, the creature with the big onyx eyes was back. He was sitting on the ground with his legs crossed as if he was guarding me... I felt stronger and my wounds were healing.
The creature, dismantled the camp and waved at me to follow, which I did.
We walked for hours, once in a while the creature bent down and picked up wired looking vegetables which he offered me.. I felt refreshed as if heve been powered up. Eventually we came to a clearing where the creature applied something on me... I felt very uncomfortable but was to scared to risk the chanse offending it by pushing it away.
I smelled like a pig..... not only was the procedure uncomfortable but now I have the scent od a boar...
A few hundred meters away just on the edge of where the clearing meets up with the dense forest, the creature with the onyx black eyes happily walked through some creatures that could incapasitate anything around with just a simple stare !
I followed quietly, and the carnivore critters didn't seem to take notice.... I guess, me smelling like a boar wasn't a bad idea
Five hours after we dismantled the camp we finally reached our goal.... There were onyx black eyed creatures scurrying all around me now, poking at me, smelling me, offering some more strange vegetables, but I wasn't scared anymore.. I knew I was safe !! The village was located on very organized pierson top of a beautiful lake.
This is how, I met my new family... a year later I became fluent in their language andtrained under "Nith" my saviour on the skills of scouting, hunting, camping and foraging. I became very proficient and at my 17th birthday I was tought the ways armed combat. The weapon of choice for this primitive race was a long wooden stick.
On my 19th birthday I was honorably offered the title of "Guardian of the planet" and given the surname"Nith" as a token for the trust I have earned from the tribe...
A few months after, scouts rush to report that a wired squareish rock object has been "growing" in the forest, just northeast of the village... After gathering the vilage warriors we depart to the location finding out that the wierd object was aResearch Facility under construction....
My first encounter with humans since I mysteriously arrive to this planet !
It was now I learned that the planet was called Endor and my protectors where called Ewokians... Sadly, the encounters with humans awoke my curiousity for the past... I wanted to know where I came from and how I got to end up here.... That same day, I waved my furry little friends good-bye and left for a time of self-exploration.
Up to this day, I still have not found my true roots and my past is still enclosed by darkness...

That's why I'm PikeGirl and Ranger. (I truly didn't have a choise....
It was all about survival with what the environment would offer)
