Just in case anybody isn't aware, typing "/who" during the game gives you a list of the 32 players closest to your current position and the area that they are in. Typing "/who Eggbert" will tell you whereabouts Eggbert is if he happens to be near to you.
Anyway, I was running around in Theed a few weeks ago and I typed "/who xxx" to find one of my friends, to be told that the person in question was in Moenia - that's the other side of the planet!
If "/who" can find people 12km away, why can't "/track"?
Isn't there some way the two could be integrated to give /track a better range? Obviously the server knows where every character in the game is at any given time - why can't that information be available to Rangers?

/who can only find people in cities, not in the wild as /trackarea does.

I've had responses when players are in "Western Great Grass Plains", "Eastern GreatGrass Plains", etc. ... or is that only because these areas are near to cities? If they stray too far would they 'disappear' from a /who request?
I've got no technical knowledge to back me up, butI'm surethe server knows where people are. There must be some way of using that to our advantage, even if its not linked with /who.

I think /who is similar to the profession search box in Ctrl-P.. It'll list anyone on the planet, anywhere.. but it's limited to 32 or something like that. You don't have to be in a city. It'll list their city or region location (Coronet, Suntir Plains, Riverlands, etc), or nothing if it's in a general unnamed area. Try typing /who on Rori or Talus sometime at an off hour. You won't even get a list of 32
I think I read somewhere (sorry, no facts here)
that range is limited on areatrack to 500m, and /who is limited to 32 people max, because you're calling up server information. If these queries were to call up more information, then too many people using the /who or /areatrack command at once could potentially crash the server.
Please don't take that as fact.. that's just the gist of something I heard or read, which may or may not be true. Grain of salt, etc, etc...

I never said Areatrack was worthless, and nothing will make me rethink being a Ranger any time soon.
I'm just wondering if the /who information could be used to enhance a Ranger ability, since it seems to be very similar stuff. Just offering a possible solution to a frequent complaint.

OT, but on a somewhat related note, I believe /taunt is available to all players androbs from the worthiness of the /rescue command. I don't mean to thread hijack, its just that I its painful to think about how muchRangers really do need some dev love.

/who doesnt give you a direction or distance to target. Just a list of whos on the planet up to 32 and the general area their in. If this makes you think areatrack is worthless. Then you might want to rethink your tracking line.

Neither /who no /areatrack will find people in buildings. Also /who will not list person standing 5 m from you if that person turned off "Make my character searchable" in character profile. I often just use both to complement each other.
