Thread: Infrequent non-mission critter spawns?

Has anyone else noticed a problem with critters spawning? Used to be I could go to a planet and /areatrack out in the middle of no where and track plenty of critters to kill. Last night I was on Rori and I couldn't find anything at all. I flew around most of the north half of the map and didn't find a single critter.

I find that this is happening more and more. Any insight guys?

Thanks

This is happening to me more and more as well.If I understandcorrectly,it is due toa limit on thenumber of spawns each planet can have. The more populated a planet gets, the more spawns are generated (in the vicinity of cities, for example) and the fewer new spawns occur out in the wilds where you may be hunting. People have remarked about the issuehere on the boards. Some people believe its no big deal; their solution is foryou tojust hunt a different planet.I believe that it is a big issue thatrequires immediate attention.I think that if Naboo wooly hide is especially nice and you want to hunt it, you should be able to find it without cussing the air blue and tearing your hair out from frustration at the lack of spawns.

What good is master ranger if there aren't the spawns to find? What good is tracking if the naboo gualama'shave no reasonable chance to spawn?

Maybe WoW will have a decent spawn system, I am really looking forward to checking it out.

Yesterday, right after server reboot, I found a motherload of Corellian avian spawns. 90 minutes yielded 6k of the stuff. Then I went to lunch. More people got on the server. I couldn't find a spawn to save my life. Same area (I waypointed) and I drove through it 4 times to encourage spawning - nada.

As I got closer to cities, I was tripping over mission spawns that were left undone. I did /ar and nobody was w/i 500m. The lairs were mine. No cash, no XP ( maxed again), but at least I cleaned up messes someone had taken and gotten killed doing. Not even tough lairs either, rather easy missions.

Anyhow, as Coronet is the seller's market - the only way to get decent spawn on that planet is early after server reset.

Piecing together what has been said on this forum the current theory is (as JB pointed out):

1. After reset all is good. Reasonable number of natural spawns, nicely distributed.

2. As the server load increases (players, mission spawns, etc) the natural spawns, esp. in remote areas decline. I believe (but cannot prove) that even existing spawns get despawned at this stage.

3. For a while, you can "encourage" natural spawns in remote areas by taking missions from a nearby terminal. Personally, I couldn't prove of disprove this. It seems to work from time to time. Even when it works, it seems to spawn low level critters.

4. In any case, as the server reset nears, the spawn system seems to be in its worst state. Which is surprising, because notwithstanding insomniac players and people from other time zones (like me), the server load should be back to stage 1 by that time. I think there maybe some sort of resource leak that gets worse over the course of the day. One portion of that might be the unfinished mission lairs that JB mentions.

One way to make Ranger /areatrack more usefull might be to change it from a "discovery" system to an "invention" system. In other words, whenever an /areatrack is performed, there should be a chance that something (including rare creaures) will spawn as a result.

1. yep - have noticed the same phenomenon - early in the morning spawns are really good.

2. yep - the devs (TH) stated this a while back -- as planets fill up w/ players, natural spawns decrease.

3. yep - in the same post TH said that taking missions will jump start an area's natural spawn rate.

4. yep - would seem that way - that the servers are not able to regain some of their resources - hence bad spawns late at night (*sigh*). I like JB's theory about the unfinished missions as well. I've always assumed that unfinished missions poof after a while (well, at least mine do, but I wonder if the lairs stay around and take up resources?)

Was on Yavin last night very late and no one else around. Just walked around spawning stuff left right and centre. Simply amazing. I wish it could be like that all the time.

Yavin far and away has the most random spawns of any planet ingame. And the most aggro random spawns as well. Just flying through on a bike can be an interesting expierence

Well chaps, a fine post and I concur with y'all.

I just had two weeks off work and for want of a better phrase, I was playing this damned game at some ungodly hours....

I spent quite a lot of time on Lok, looking for RIS components, hide and also any NPCs for this damned junk kit craze going around at the moment. After server reset for sure, lots of nice wild spawns, and the planet was quite a joy to explore. During the nightshift sessions though, it was like I was playing a demo game without the creatures put in; could travel for kilometres without seeing anything, not even a Jedi! (yeah crazy I know)

I definitely would believe spawn rates go down as the day progresses.
