Greetings all,
As my signature states, I am currently a TKM/Master Commando. I have been wanting to add a monkey making profession to my toon fora while, and I think I am going to do Ranger. I have wanted to do the ranger prof since before I even purchased the game, I just never could get past that damned trapping tree. As a ranger, I can make good $$ while doing the thing that I love the most; HUNTING. I know that arguably the best combat compliment to Ranger would be Rifleperson, but what do you think about Master Ranger/Master Pistoleer? I would like someadvice about what to do with theremaining XP. I was thinking about novice medic.
Regards,

Try run a search for template advice and such because there must be around 2/3 a day popping up these days.
After that if you dont find anything ill be happy to copy and paste some info
Basically the best harvester template is two combat professions and scout. Ranger is simply a hunters lifestyle atm and the bonuses we get fail to make us the hunters we are made out to be.
The only reason some rangers (myself included) can match the 2 combat profession +scout templates is because we've dedicated our time to perfecting the art of hunting in this game and most of us have our techniques perfectly set up for optimum harvesting.
If you are wanting to get into the hunting lifestyle then welcome and i hope you find what your looking for with the search facility, if you want to be the ultimate harvester then youll also find hints in this forums about what the best harvester template is.

Also yeah novice medic is great plus first aid 1.
On the trapping, the whole line can be done super quick, like 1 or 2 hours. Just spam wire mesh on high level mobs using chef food (+trapping) whilst armoured and buffed.
You'll see that the only problem is having enough inv space spare to store the wire mesh traps hehe

A template that I am currently experimenting on is this
Ranger 0040
TKA 4034
Master Pikeman
Good defense, good offense, good harvesting, powerboost, and wound healing.
However, the best part of pistoleer, is that there is a damage type weapon for almost every vulnerability there is.
heat, acid, kinetic, energy, stun, (no cold/ electric dmg)
Ranger 0040
TKA 4034

From what I can gather, Camby's template is a very common Rifleperson's template:
Master Ranger
Master Scout
Master Rifleman
Marksman 4000
Medic 1000
HAM setup has 1100 in a Mind secondary so with one brandy (giving me 1530) my weapons dont cost my mind any points at all and I can heal Health and Action with stims. I very rarely wear armour, if I do it is normally 72% kinetic ubese, and my weapons are mainly T21s and DXR-6bs (primarily the latter). Buffs sometimes, though normally I rely on Vasarian Brandy (which I am an addict, I confess).
It seems to be a solid and rather common template.

I've heard things about Pistoleer not being so good, but have never tried it. Rifle is definitely a powerhouse (But I may be biased - I am still in the honeymoon stage of Master).
Like others have said, if you like the idea of being a Ranger, go master, but if you just want to harvest, take just the harvesting line or just use scout and combat skills.
I have also heard, but never tried, that if you go pistoleer it is worth dabbling in BH pistols, for the more powerful gun. That doesn't leave much room for Ranger however, and nothing for Medic.

LOL as another former pistoleer I find it quicker to kill nightsisters with 80% kinetic resist as a 3334 TKA then I did as a 444 pistoleer using a pistol that had AP and they were vulnerable to damage type

Thank you for your input. I should have mentioned that I plan on mastering both professions. Whether I actually keep all the trees after I master is a whole different story. I like the idea of being a gunslinging ranger, though not being able to solo high level mobs may be a deciding factor in my decision to keep all the trees after I master. I like group hunting sometimes, but I prefer to solo. When I am grouped, I would like to be 'needed' for something other than a tank. I think this template will give me a good balance of firepower and support.
I did a search on the forums and found some helpful information. I think I willdo ok against high level mobs with a couple of krayt and/or gorax pistola's in my inventory. My current template is a PVE killing machine, so it shouldn't be too much trouble to raise the cash for uber weapons prior todropping TKM and Commando.
Transition will bekey in all of this. I think I will drop commando as I build my scout XP back up, then drop marksman as I build pistoleer. And finallydrop TKM to master ranger and pistoleer.
I think my first ranger template will be:
Master Ranger
Master Pistoleer
1000 Medic
