Thread: [Q/A]Lost Ranger returning, again...for the second time
- When I first went for ranger I made it about 1/2 way to master and took up rifleman because it was the worst/least used but the most fun IMHO. I was thinking about going Fencer just to be different, but am unsure as Ranger to me seemed to cater towards ranged combat types. What are your thoughts?
- Subjective opinion, but what seems to be the most mature/fun server...a whole can of worms I know but I'm positive this is the best place to ask.
- Any good friendly hits on some of the changes that occured since, August 2003. I know, RTM, and I have as well as the patch notes and the forums, but this old dog takes a long time to learn new tricks and I really think there is a huge difference from knowing the mechanics and understanding them.
Well, thanks in advance for everything. I can't wait to create my old balding anti-social toon tomorrow, and ring out Lola 2.
P.S. I was also one hell of a dancer, but I'm think I'm done with that so let's not go there! ![]()
Server wise Im on Bloodfin myself. But my vists to Wanderhome seem to have the best maturity level. As well as the economy least screwed up. Again completly subjective since 99% of my time is on Bloodfin
- rifleman hit from a distance
- things like pickets, which give good scout xp and herb meat, may be taken on with AOE (although you still want to use the DXR on headshoting individuals)
- if the critter 'teleports' 50-100m away they are easy to get back in range
- stun, cold, acid, energy, kinetic dmge
Teras Kasi
- TKM can stand toe to toe, if need be with an Ancient Rancor
- because you can take on more high level beasts at a time, your harvest rate is higher which makes getting all that hide for camps seem easier
- after being dealt copious amounts of disease - mask scent or conceal and meditate that plague away
- big damage real fast
- for trapping you can just stand still and let the critter break like waves against you while you try to get that wire mesh to stick
And disadvantages
Rifleman:
- to get at your tougher beasts you will have to be crafty and prepared to run - that Rancor pair will put a load of hurt on you
- you must find a doctor to cure disease
- trapping is a little trickier and takes a little longer since your abilities at close range are limited
- with the delays at equiping weapons in combat, if you try to trap without your rifle to reduce the dmg modifier, then equip your timing must be right
Teras Kasi
- you spend a decent amount of time running after things that wander off
- BAF is not your friend - even non-BAF generally attract a crowd since you are counting the blemishes on their hides up close
- kinetic only dmage
I'm a Wanderhome player like Calc (I actually met the legend once in an Outpost on Dantooine, but thats a story for another time), and find most folks to be very friendly, but pvp and the GCW is a bit of a pain: there are a few loot dudes that keep switching factions and having their own little war with in a war. Sometimes its like the Sneetches and everyone wants 'Stars on Thars'
As far as changes to the game, I have been playing for a year, with a few months off in the middle. I sometimes find it hard to remember the differences in the way I acutally play the game. Its much easier to realize that Coronet is lag city when it used to be deserted, than it is to remember how I hunted hurtoons last fall.
Best of luck to you. Save us a spot at your campfire and try not to hunt the quenkers into extinction.
