That is the question!

2.5 boxes to finish in Wilderness Survival to get Master Ranger, do I do it or do I just "play" and if I get it before the "big patch" great, if not then assuming they put it in, a little easier it is to acquire??

So opinions here...

Grind now or wait a week or two for the Survival exp changes coming??

Somewhere in the Ranger forum someone posted some new info that is live on the Test Center. It looked like they were lowering the xp requirement for Frontiering (I haven't re-read that post but I remember that Frontiering 4 was only going to require 60K and I think Frontiering 3 was 40K). Anyway, the point is, maybe you should not worry about grinding until after they have put those changes up on the regular servers.

Don't grind, go to an adventure planet like Lok or Dathomir where a good camp is appreciated

I understand your dilemma. I did the macro camp grind and it was pure hell. I don't know if I'd do it again, but it sure felt good once finished.

Cammie I ground the 4th box in Scout and vowed I would never do it again. It was excruciating. The problem however is that Survival in the Ranger tree is even worse, because many of the groups I hunt with include Novice Scouts that need xp too, and I get this "aww.. I should let them build the camp" sort of thing going instead of just setting up camp myself.

Personally I think we'll all be fine after a week or so once the XP changes make it to the live servers. Have fun for awhile and go meet some up and coming Rangers or work on other skills while we wait.

The xp requirements for Frontiering on the TC atm are 1st box: 20000 2nd box: 30000 3rd box: 40000 and 4th box: 60000

Here is my recommendation:

either

1) Grind, but only aquire Frontiering II, that will give you enough cap room to build up the 100k survival xp you'll need at the new rates. Then, instead of buying frontiering III and IV, just store up as much survival xp as you can then buy those skills at the cheaper rates when the patch hits. It will save you 40k worth of xp using the above method.

2) Don't grind, just camp as needed and don't buy anything until the new rates go into place. One thing to remember is that with the new patch, not only are the rates dropping, but assembling traps and camps will now also grant you a little survival xp instead of the crafting xp it grants now. This means that it will be somewhat easier to max out your frontiering line.

Here is what I'm doing since Wayfaring, Bioscience(being rnamed tracking), and Trapping are going up in requirements. I have Bio III, IV, Trapping III, IV, and frontiering III, IV left to go. I'm focusing solely on maxing out Bioscience this next week and *only* using camps when I really need them. Likewise, I'm ignoring trapping for the most part. That way, when the patch hits, I'll only have trapping and frontiering left to finish, and I'll be able to gain a decent amount of frontiering in the process of finishing off my Trapping line.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I have enough for Frontiering 3, but I'm going to wait till the patch to buy it. If the current rates hold true, I'll be able to buy both Frontiering 3 and 4 by the time the patch hits.I already have Wayfaring 4, and amfinished with Trapping 4 (just need the training for it), almost done with the Bio line, 1.5 more boxes to go.

As others have said, go ahead and earn the xp, by either grinding or not, but hold off on actually getting the skills trained until the patch goes live. You'll pay 20k/40k/60k/80k now, but 20k/30k/40k/60k later.

Camp doesn't even work, so I don't see why you should spend your time grinding away when the camp you get at level 4 you won't use anyway...not until it's fixed.

Nevermind the fact that you need Frontiering 4 for Master Ranger. I know I'll be sitting on my 60k of Survival Exp until this patch goes in.
