Thread: Scouting and Survival exp....
Ok I have reada few posts and people seem to complain that there is a increase in scouting exp... Ok that is true but scouting is NOT hard to get. I have to agree it takes time. It is a long run like most other professions to hit master.
I do not know where most Rangers hunt but I can say that on Lok the scounting exp is just too easy. By the time you hit novice ranger with 1-2 skills in wayfaring you can and will out run Snorbals. These animals give me from 200-500(+/-) per kill. If you hit a pack of mature, elder its 400+ scouting per kill. Go with a few friends find a Snorbal lair destruction mission worth 16k(+/-). Per lair youcan get 4-5k scouting exp. This is not counting all the animals you need to kill just to get to the mission point. Dont forget you can outrun snorbals.
Another thing on Lok just hit those snakes takes me 4-5 shots to kill one. they give me 111exp.
Just a thought get off starting planets and try the harder ones.
For the survival exp I also agree its long and tedious. Best trick I can give is go to Fort Tuskan or some place of the likes. Set up a camp. When people are in it healing, dancing etc... It takes about 8-10 minutes for max camp exp. So in one hour I would make about 5-6k exp. It is long. Another thing you can do to kill down time is make medical supplies while you are in camp. When people come in just sell the stim packs, wound packs etc... will help on the boring part where you cannot leave camp.

Boshile, not that I disagree with your post but you may want to consider that scouting experience is not "too easy to get" just because you can kite snorbals with a pistol. It's just easy to get when using that tactic.
Many rangers, especially melee rangers, cannot kite and thus must fight creatures on the starting planets unless they can stand up to taking a beating by a Lok type mob. Yes, you have a described a way to get a lot of scouting experience easily. But the prerequisites are that you must also be of a secondary profession capable of kiting. In other words, Ranger/Melee's, Ranger/Entertainers, Ranger/Musicians, Ranger/Artisan's, etc. would NOT find getting scouting exps "too easy".
I'm one of the odd Rangers that finds Survival xp easier than Scouting xp. Why? I hunt in a large group. I play with a steady group of people, and almost all of them have a need to harvest. However, they tend to not want to bother with making the camps. (Yes, most of them went the CH way.) So I'm busily plopping down camps and playing my Fizz whenever the spice wears off, someone dies, or there is an afk break.
You can imagine how thrilled I am with the ability to have more than one person harvest the same mob . ![]()
Just piping in because I feel a bit more like the exception to the general. ![]()
Survival XP has never been that difficult for me, either. I usually keep it on target with the two scouting branches. So, usually when both scouting branches are complete in a tier, so is my survival. I'll have trapping done in no time since I trap my arse off all the time. Like this idea or not, when I get killed (which I don't do on purpose) I'll set up camps while I clean around the house or read a book. The wound healing adds to the rate of XP from the camps. Also, I found that if you forage within a camp until you drain the area of resources (which also lowers your action bar) you can squeeze out some extra XP, too. I try to camp close to a city just in case some PCs wander by for a quick rest. Of course these are some solo techniques, but theywork for me. But I've never found it difficult to gain XP.
