Thread: LOVE RANGER BUT ITS STARTING TO LOOK LESS SELFSUFICIENT!!! HELP PLEASE?!!?
help please... im a new ranger.. personaly i like it before the new changes, but oh well what can i do?
so anyways my questions is short and simple: WHERE THE HE** CAN I FIND THE WOOD TO MAKE MY DARN CAMO PACKS WITH??? I TRIED THE BIZZAR ON NABOO....NADA.. DOES THIS MEAN I HAVE TO BE ABLE TO USE A FLORA TOOL AND SPEND 15 POINTS ON ANOTHER SKILL???
if you ask me it defeats the purpose of being a ranger...how are you self sufficent if you have to get friggin wood from others??? well i guess you have to buy metal too.. darn. why couldnt they make that a skill in forage...like you can find wood instead of wormbait???
okay i got it out of my system.. but really can someone help me??? i love the profession...but i hate to have to give up points just to learn novice artisian....for the ability to survey!! please help me fellow rangers!!!![]()
sorry for any typos and whining...
Jackal,
There is no profession in this game that is self-sufficient. The Devs have never stated that the goal of Rangers is to be self-sufficient.
Your gun was crafted by a weaponsmith.
Your armor by an armorcrafter.
Your clothes, by an artisan or tailor.
Medics heal you.
Entertainers heal your BF.
Chefs make your food.
Smugglers make your spice.
Architects make your houses and furniture.
These are all things that Rangers have or want to have. We're not self-sufficient. So what we need to do is let the artisans know what we're looking for and have them get them for us. Check the bazaars. You know how they come here and ask us for hides and bone? We should go to their forums and ask for flora.
It's not that hard if you think about it.

Jack,
One more thing: Chill, bro. ![]()
You posted a followup to your thread 9 minutes after the first post. It's almost 2 AM on the east coast, so only morons like me are on.
Give us a chance to help you. ![]()

well if you read the manual it does say that the ranger is almost totally self suficent. i guess now that you put it that way thats a big ALMOST.. but really bro you know it sucks that we have to go to artistans for stuff. they make way more then enough already..
man i didnt wanna have to be a bounty hunter like everyone else... now i see why theres so many running around.....the screw up eveyone elses professions it seems.. oh well what can you do...![]()
Jack,
Being a former Artisan/Architect that I was I can tell you that wood isn't the most sought after resource in the game. Only furniture and a few weapons utilize wood...until now. So, my suggestion would be this: continue to watch the bazaar until you see wood appear or better yet ask an Artisan to get you some. I'm sure any Newbie artisan with Survey level 1 would be giddie to gather some of this for you and sell it at 3/cr per piece. Then again, you could always burn those 15 points and get survey yourself.

a) the stuff is too specific. I don't mind needing metal and polymers for some of my goodies, because I can always find something to use. But if the specific flora I need is not being harvested this week, either because it's not spawning or the current spawn has pathetic stats, then I'm hosed. Yes, eventually a few people will start offering to sell the stuff on a near-constant basis because Rangers need it, but they'll do so at outrageous prices.
b) it says right here on the label that Scouts and Rangers can forage for useful plants. So why do we have to buy common plants from other people, or buy a skill we really don't otherwise need to get them ourselves? Makes no sense. I don't have 15 points to spare on Artisan. I have them now, and I suppose I'll buy it, plant some harvesters and squirrel away a few thousand units of flora, but I can't keep the skill and stick with my long-range plans. And it irritates me to have to spend real-life gaming time engaged in activities that are not consonant with those plans. I'd much rather be gaining the umpteen million experience I need in Rifle than getting a virtual job running micro farms.
If they have already, I've yet to find any wood for flora of any kind... Well, unless I use /medicalforage, but my med foraging is crap. I shouldn't have to be a medic to find wood for my camo kits...
I understand that the devs are trying to add in a bit of codependence and cooperation among the classes, but to my understanding, scouts and rangers are *supposed* to be a relitively self-sufficient class. That means, we should be able to do the major things in the class by ourselves -- without relying on other players or class skills to achieve.
Metals aren't necessary for the smaller camps -- and that as it should be. For the bigger bases, I don't see the problem in bringing metal and other non-classed resources into the picture.
But camo kits -- this ranger-specific skill, should be completely systemized to the ranger. It's designed so that the ranger can safely (supposedly -- it'll all come together eventually) traverse the land in-between aggressive creatures. A RANGER should know how to craft the kits and where to locate the materials, since it's all off the land. And since rangers can survive completely off the land, just add two and two together.
