Hello everyone.

Wish I had something new for you Rangers but there is nothing to report regarding test center with Rangers and Scouts. Sorry. I’m posting so you all know, I’m remembering you all.

I really hope this helps my fellow Rangers and friends out there. Please let me know how this works for you..

I have heard many players talking about lag in chat on the test center lately, So I thought I would post something that many of you can do that may cut your lag out, or at least cut it down somewhat. Depending on the age and hardware of your machine.

If your machine is older then me, Please buy a new one.

Players that use windows: Try this before you log on to SWG.

1- Bring up your web page

.

2- Go to tools and click options. An internet options window will appear. In that window click, Delete Cookies, another window will appear, click yes to delete all the cookies you received while surfing, etc, these cookies take up space and use memory and Hard drive.

3- Now click Delete Files, these are all the junk files in your Temp folder that you don’t use anymore, files that have been replaced with newer up-dated files. All they do is take up space and create lag as well as eat memory.

4- Now click, Clear History. Window pop-up will appear, click yes and that will also get rid of junk info.

5- AND THIS MUST BE DONE 3 TIMES A WEEK. I don’t mean to shout, but this is important, very important. DEFRAG your computer. I can promise you that if you Defrag three times a week, you’ll thank me. Just your regular daily routine at the PC will pick up speed.

There are other things you can do as well, like, Hit, Ctrl- Alt- Delete, once, and close down all programs that are not going to be used in connection with the game. It’s easy, just highlight the program to close and click END TASK. These programs will restart when you reboot your machine or re-log on after closing down for the night.

If you are a player that never Defrags, then you will have a long Defrag the frist time you try it. After that, Defraging will take just a few minutes. btw, turn off your window screen or it will pop open and stop the Defrag.

Defrag puts all your folders and files in order, makes sure that all files are in the right folder. After Defrag, every file runs smooth and clean.

P.S. there are programs that you can buy that will clean junk off your PC’s if you feel that is a better way to go.

Delete cookies? Unless all cookies stored on your computer are loaded by default, they do not affect memory, only hard drive space (well, not really.. cookies are tiny). Same with the history. Even if you're very tight on HD space, you're not saving all that much. There are better ways to increase space. I agree that defrag is very important as well as getting rid of those memory resident programs. Windows will actually dump programs in memory to your swap file if they're not used to free up system memory. Best thing you can do is get more RAM.

Defrag put files in folders? No, not really. Depending on what type of defrag program you use, defrag at the minimum will move files that are segmented to be continuous. Meaning, if you've got a 1meg file and 1/2 of it is at one physical location on your hard drive and the other 1/2 is at another spot, it is defragmented and takes longer for your HD to access it. Defragging combines the parts of the file and puts them on your hard drive for quicker access. More robust defragging software will actually monitor what files you access the most and organize your HD for optimum performance.

Can you tell us a little about the Ranger community on TC? How many are there? Masters?

What was is the testing like? How much feedback do you give the Dev's about thetested updates?

Thanks

Hello Takarin

Can you tell us a little about the Ranger community on TC? How many are there? Masters.

A- I’m the only Master Ranger that I know of. I’m sure some are getting close. I keep training higher skills of players all the time.

What was is the testing like? How much feedback do you give the Dev's about the tested updates?

A- We test for bugs of all kind. Examples: Does the act give to much exp, or does it create a dupe, is the act balanced with the con I get regarding the creature.

What percentage of the time do the traps work, are they to high for a players skill level.

Masksent and Conceal are still being fine tuned. At this time we are still working on the amount of exp creatures give when you are Masked or concealed.

Can we walk through buildings and once inside shoot creatures that can not return fire, meaning: Exploit that can be used to gain exp.

There are so many things to look for that you will never run out of things to do.

On the test center we know that dying is a lot of the game. See, when we test, we are sometimes matched with creatures to set the consider level and balance. This means, Death. hehe.

Now all this has to be sent back to the dev’s. Some bugs can be posted on the boards. Some can’t wait and we send out a call for a dev to check our finding. Now that we are getting higher skilled players in test, we are starting to group-play on the harder planets. So there will be in the near future I hope, some news of what is happening on the harder planets.

I will do my best to keep you all up-dated.
