Thread: Farewell Master Ranger
The Devs have fixed the dabbler portion of CH and finally forced me to become a MCH (only reason I didn't become one in the first place is because pets truely suck at dmg output and I wanted to be "Master Ranger" as well as have some pistoleer). So now I have shuffled my points around and become a dabbler in Ranger/pistoleer, instead of a dabbler in CH/pistoleer. I certainly hope they don't destroy dabbling in ranger and don't see why they should since it isn't overpowering in any way IMO.
I don't judge them for my frustrations at their changes. I try and build a character that I enjoy within the existing system, while the devs think of changes to make the game "better" (granted players urge them on in various ways). This is inevitably a never ending cycle and is something all of you inexperienced MMOG players should begin to accept, or at least understand. The game is never "finished", and there is always a power flavor of the month that people cry nerf at.
I truely hoped for more from master ranger and thought I could hold out until there was, but I couldn't. I think I used camo kits on yav4 three times and on naboo just for kicks on friends a few times. I rarely if EVER used ranger traps. Creatures that might have been worthwhile using them on couldn't even be trapped.
I wish all you master rangers the best of luck.
I was just...about..... Master Ranger but..
ah well. Perhaps it will improve one day.
Well guys here is my two cents,
I made master ranger yesterday Nov 1st because I had set out to do so very long ago. I am there. But before ever reaching it I knew too, that I would give it up. As you have stated, the traps costs too much in time to throw and HAM to me to be much use. I can use my weapon to inflict more damage quicker and not have to be so close to the animal. I can't draw the best hunting missions even, becuase they are based on weapon and not skill. And the camo kits, well people give conflivting stories but my maskscent seems to work better at a far lower cost in material (many things to nothing) than the camo kit. Most people I hunt with can maskscent themselves so there really is no use for it for me. So hello Master Ranger and goodbye Master Ranger. (Even area track really isn't that great - people can draw missions for animals that I was getting asked to track for pets).
Ashas beensaid to many... Master Ranger is simply a title.
- In and of itself, the skill does not provide much unless a playeris working on a Holocron.

My suggestion is cut back which branches don't appeal to your play style and use those points elsewhere.
- Whether a player has Master, or only one Branch, or even just Novice... We are all still Rangers.
You can always pick the skills back up later iffuture changes make it worthwhile. ![]()
I don't think that I could ever give up frontiering or tracking -- when your combat philosophy revolves around not getting hit much, a HTFB can cure your small wounds very nicely in the field; and tracking is helpful in all kinds of situations.
I actually like traps a fair bit, but I really only use the scout traps, and the increased chance to hit with traps currently doesn't seem to be a big enough value per skill point invested to keep me from dropping the line. However, when the bear trap, tripwire, etc. come out, I very well might be changing my tune...
NRass also makes an excellent point -- any time we feel the lure of master ranger once more, we can readjust our characters again in the future. In fact, I looked at my saved up experience points, and with my capped out scout xp, I can retrain up to wayfaring 3 without having to regain any more, and even take a pretty decent chunk out of the requirements for 4.
Happy hunting, and hope you are enjoying your new character build as much as I am!
(rats, I need to change my sig)
Woohoo, now we Master Rangers can feel even more elite since there's less of us. ![]()
JUST KIDDING!!![]()
Seriously though, Nraas has it on the money. If you don't feel a particular ranger line is helping your character today, dump it and move on. You're still a ranger if you have the Novice box. All I have ever wanted to be in this game (and all I have ever played) is a Master Ranger so I wouldn't give it up for anything. But if you need more bang for your skill points, more power (literally) to ya. ![]()
As long as you have the novice ranger box, you will always be a part of the family. I personally started the game dying to be a bounty hunter. After a long while, I made it to BH (3.4.4.4) but, as i was working on investigation 4, I realized that it was boring, monotonous, and linear. The bounty hunter community was petty and griped without adding suggestions or solutions. When they did offer a solution it was to bring another class down or try to add another class' skills to theirs.
I did squad leader, and found that 90% of my team was afk while I told them what to shoot. And the other 10% resented me shooting for them.
I did CH, but it was too passive and I had no fun watching my pets do all the work for me.
As a larf, I picked up ranger, and i have been the happiest I have been in the game. My PA mates and I have great times and now I love the game. I finally found my niche and Im having fun.
So, this is a long winded way to say, take care, good hunting and above all, have fun
I loved Master Ranger and played it for good 3 months, explored everywhere, hunted ever where.
Now with the pending doom to CH and "possible, rumor like" changes to Weapon Speed Caps.
I decieded to finish up my last rifleman box for Master Sharpshooter, Master Marksmen and get novice BH + Novice Pistoller.
That offers some better weapons for Close Support (LLC + Scatter) and I can always spam away warning shot with a pistol and swap out to rifle for the kill.
Now as for PVP I'm still just as usefull as a Master Ranger, but I have the added defensive power of Pistol's and the LLC.
I don't regreat Unlearning Master Ranger, I wore the Title very Proud for Very Long and I'm Still A Ranger. Just with a smaller Camp
A top of the line ranger camp is trumped by a droid with a crafting station. The droid will have a 110 medchip and a private crafting station vs the ranger's 100 med rating and public crafting stations. Even if it was better, even if it miraculously allowed entertainers to cure battle fatuige there just isn't enough groupping in this game to really make this line worth it.
Traps. Well traps are just sad. Other than adhesive mesh I really can't say that any of them work but oh, if you untrain master ranger and keep novice make sure you run a couple factory crates since you can still use those area traps
Camo kits are just way too annoying to ever make and I certainly don't have the inventory space to keep up with all the various kits and what's the point? If a humanoid agros me in the wild I NEVER DIE. The only possible use for this is to check a harvester a bunch of npcs have camped and that happens so rarely it can't justify the skill points. As for mask scent, perhpas the most disappointing thing is being a master ranger with maskscent buffed clothing and having a kretle unmask you.
The harvest and area track line is the only worthwhile thing I found in my foray as a master ranger and area track is often frustratingly unreliable and the harvest bonus really doesn't boost the harvest enough to "have my bank account reflect my great skill".
I'll be keeping the harvest and area track but I have to say getting to mster ranger was a bitter disappointment because I really liked the idea but hated the poorly executed implementation.
