First of all I've been a ranger since launch and I do love the class. However, we all know rangers aren't unique enough. This is why I think we should have a sneak attack assciated with /conceal.

This attack could add a multiplier to our base damage mods on the first strike while concealed. For example if I have a unarmed damage mod of 70, then let's say a x3 multliplier is applied thereby making my first strike with a unarmed damage mod of 210. There could also be a accuracy modifier of some sort. Since its a multiplier of our base damage mods, the ranger would still remain a supporting profession because obviously the better the damage mod the better the sneak attack. This sneak attack would significantly differentiate /conceal with /mask scent. A scout would then just be someone who can hide from mobs while a ranger hides for the advantage of dealing a concealed attack. This would make it worthwhile to actually craft camo kits. We might be able to make profit as well if they apply a lesser multiplier to camo kits for non-rangers and we could camo ppl for profits. Thismultiplier could work for both ranged and melee rangers. Even tho the Hunting bow is a neat idea, I think we allwould ratheruse our prefered weapon.I think this would also make the ranger more unique.

A sneak attack is a widely known tool in rpgs and mmorpgs alike, why can't swg have it also. Ranger would be the ideal class for this, we are hunters afterall. I've heard they are thinking of adding a trap that lures a creature from a lair. It would be awesome to track a creature, conceal ourselves, bait the creature with a trap, and then do a sneak attack to stealth kill the creature or npc.

There's a couple ways they could do this. First they could either have an actual sneak attack command or just the multiplier mentioned above for our basic attack. They should put the attack in the hunting branch and keep the conceal where it is to discourage dabblers. For example inNovice ranger they could have "SneakAttack 1" which has a 2x multiplier and then atexpert hunting have "Sneak Attack2" whichhas a 3x multiplierand then Master ranger have 5x multiplier or something like that. This could also be good for bounty hunters/rangers who use track, then they'd have a sneak attack. This could also be applied to the GCW. I would love it if I saw a rival Imperial/rebel in the distance, conceal my identity, come up behind them and launch a sneak attack.

Anyway, I hope everyone likes this idea. I would LOVE it. Itwould makeour profession a little more combat oriented and adds to our uniqueness that we all crave. Please continue to add to this idea if you like it. Since this is a familiar and widely used gaming tool I don't think it would be too difficult for the devs to implement.

Very good idea. Sounds like something from D&D.

Rifleman actually have a skill like this, surprise shot. At the moment though it's not actually used since it is too costly and the damage multiplier is not high enough to make it worth using.

It could easily be a Ranger skill, but simply because another class has something very similiar to it, I'm not sure us Rangers would ever get it.

Still...since Rifleman never use it anyway, it could be transferred to the Ranger class and modified to be something actually useful.

Guys,

I'll make sure N'Raas sees this when he gets back in town.

I recall something similiar to this a while ago, but my brain is failing me as to when it was.

I believe this is covered in the /SilentShot request provided in the SotP...

  • I will see about rewriting the old proposal to give it a little more shine though (as the request is definitely showing its age.)

This is a great idea, but it would be a mistake to put it in the tracking line. The tracking line has enough skills already, adding something else will only make us into the next CH's, with dabblers able to access the full extent of the professions skills with only 1 or 2 branches. I've always thought that, with the small amount of ranger traps, the adv. trapping line could be expanded to include things like special ranger attacks and weapons, to finally give the line a bit of use.

Agree with Pith, put this in the mostly useless trapping line.

I sorta kinda, not really, use a form of this now. Healthshot1, Healthshot2 (or whatever the pistoleer bleed is), Stopping shot, peace. If I am maskscented then the creature does not aggro right off. I move out. Usually I get only the one creature aggroing on me. HInt, bulls first.

You're right, Pithren. Tracking wouldn't be a good line for it. With the recent announcement that rangers are the "ultimate creature hunters" I was very disappointed. I became a ranger for the stealth aspect. It seems stealth has been overlooked as a possible gameplay dimension and yet it is so common in the gaming industry. Even other mmorpgs allow players to use stealth tactics versus head-on combat(Shades in AO comes to mind). Ranger seemed like a viableprofession for stealth combat and it seems the developers did think of that to some degree in the beginning. However, perhaps another profession is more suited to it, who knows. I just wanna be a ninja

As a career ranger the statement that 'Rangers are the ultimate creature hunters' simply doesnt stand up in groups. Soloing we can kite (although if cammo worked a bit better for single pulls that would help) and therefore smite creatures well if not kill as fast as some professions. In groups of 3 or more most yellows and a good of red cons are dead within 30 seconds making trapping worthless. Tracking is good for hunting down specific mobs solo or if searching for a specific CH pet, but again if in a group everyone will spread out on vehicles and locate huntable creatures with the right resources by spreading out. The image of a ranger running behind the rest of the group (as he is tracking whilst they ride of vehicles) just doesn't suit.

We are good soloers when backed up by another damage dealing profession, but some purpose in an animal hunting group would help us define our class better.

riiiiiiiight. Is this backstabbingsuppose to effect only creatures or humanoids? Because unless you havent noticed you cant sneak past humanoids with conceal or maskscent anymore. So if you cant sneak by them, how can you sneak up to them?

Just doesnt sound right to me. And I just dropped master ranger tonight. See ya.
