Thread: My return to Ranger (sort of)

I started this game with a MonCal in late December with the plans to be a crafter. But a friend handed me a holocron which cried out Master BH, so I tried it. Along the way I became a Ranger - Hunt Master (is it called Tracker now?). I have to admit that in my futile attempt at BH I found the harvesting bonuses from the Tracking line and the player tracking skills to be invaluable.

But the BH grind, and combat in general, wore on me as I really wanted to craft. So I essentially gave up combat all together and eventually became Master Doctor/Architect. The frustration of not being able to harvest my own Doc supplies got on my nerves after the time I spent as a Ranger, so I dropped Architect and picked up some lower Swordsman skills and some basic Scout.

Then the word came out that the number of mastered professions might give some bonuses to the selection of FS skills after Pub 10, so I dropped the Scout and Swordsman. I mastered a couple of profs which I could easily while keeping Master Doc.

Then I found myself Master Doctor/Merchant and in the same place I was back at Doctor/Architect, no way to harvest meats and a spawn of very lovely Avian on my server. So I did the stupid thing and purchased another SWG copy for an extra account.

Since harvesting was my goal, I made a Trando for the natural bonus. Planning to become Master Ranger to maximize my harvesting, I decided to add to it TKA since the Trando's have the Unarmed bonuses as well.

A couple of days ago, I mastered Scout and was about to pick up my Novice Ranger when I stopped and looked at the skill lines again. Didn't take long to remember everything you full-time Rangers have known for months. Just for example, how the Creature To-Hit bonuses don't apply to melee.

So I started thinking, what was my vision of the Ranger I wanted to be? Well I knew I wanted to harvest well, after all that's the whole reason this new character exists. And I knew that while I wanted to do this solo, I also wanted to be viable in group hunts as well, even able to offer something to encourage my guild mates to hunt for Herb/Avian meats with me.

So last night I finally figured out my goal:

Master TKA

Ranger 0/0/4/0 (gotta have that harvesting bonus)

Squad Leader 3/0/4/0

If you're like a guild mate of mine who is a former Squad Leader, you have to be asking not only why do I want another profession with issues of its own, but how could it possibly add to my vision of a Ranger? There are only two things:

1)Group Terrain Nav +50. Not only will this replace for me theTerrain Nav bonuses from Ranger, butI can pass along this bonus to others in my group. Who better than a Ranger to find their way through the wilderness, and who better to show others the way?

2) Group Melee Defense +25. If I can't use my Ranger's knowledge of creatures to hit them better, then my Ranger shoud be able to use that knowledge to minimize damage to himself if whathe's hunting closes to melee range. Andhe should be able to offer that knowledge tohis group as well.

I'm sure that to some of you this is a twisted view of Ranger, but it works for me for the moment...

On a side note, I saw the post here about a Ranger Co-op on another server? Well, I'm only using three of my vendors right now with my Master Doctor/Merchant character. Are there any other Rangers on Ahazi who might want to look into something similar to this?

Hello there, Trick. Me, i'm *so* close to what you are and your goals. My main is a doc/merchant (+survey), and cannot harvest the meats alone, so why not have somebody do it for me for free? (game credits)Why, an alt could do it. Traversedto ranger just like you, and then here I hit the brick, what complements this? Swordsman? TK? I'll bet that's been asked before, maybe one day they'll sticky something for all of us to see.
