Thread: Jedi Master Ranger question

Once pub 10 goes live, I plan on achieving Force Sensitivity. My question is, how good will my character be offensively/defensively if I were to drop Master Pistoleer and Marksman, while retaining Master Ranger/novice Medic. With 97 SP, can I get a goodly amount of Lightsaber skill and defence/heal skills? Or should I just bring the 2nd character slot through the Trials and go full Jedi with him?

I'm only asking here because I know some of you were able to play around on TC when they were trialing pub 9... and who can talk rationally on the Jedi board anyway?

Ranger has nothing to do with combat skills. So if your trying to make a super soldier. I would build another one. Ranger is a support class with support roles that do not, usually, benefit you in a solo way.

I had understood it to be that FS skills didn't use skill points that the regular professions did. Am I wrong on this or has it changed? I was planning on being a FS master Ranger/Swordsman.

FS skills take 1 skill point each. I believe that if you master 1 elite combat prof and Ranger, you can put your 18 leftover points into FS skills (and have 18 of them).

Being a Master Ranger, I am well aware of their Support Role. I do not want to be a super soldier, I want to be a Master Ranger...

What I was asking is if dropping the Elite Combat Profession (ie Pistoleer in my case) and picking up Lightsaber in Jedi among other things would be a good thing or leave me gimped cause 97 SP won't get me enough in Jedi to survive on my own.

When the game 1st came out, my intention was to become a Master Ranger. I'm not dropping that for anything!

Thank you for you input.

One thing to remember is the visibilty you gain while using forces powers (I think that is how it works). You probably wouldn't be strong enough, with just LS skills to live against a BH and his potential group. This is, however, a discussion that would be best suited for the Jedi forum if you want more than speculation. From what I have seen, Rangers are not too terribly interested in Jedi... Please continue to ask questions if you wish .

I thought the FS points were " Free" 24 points to get FS and THEN if we decided to go further, we started using our base 250 Skill points to go up?

So once FS we want to go padawan, we have to give up some of our 250 points to get the padawan novice box and then as we go up in Padawan, we have to decrease our skills in other priofessions.

I may be wrong.

The FS skill boxes do take come out of your 250. The "free" statementwas directed at existing Jedi. During the conversion to publish 9 Jedi were given a certain amount of skill points for jedi skill boxes thay had already earned. During early testing these "earned" points were being spent on the FS boxes. The devs just gave all convertingjedi 24 skill points to spend for "free" before spending the points they earned from pre-existing jedi skill boxes.

Dammit now I'm going to have to wade back into the Lantern Bird guano that is the Jedi forums.

/tiesropearoundwaist.

One of you hold on to this rope. When you hear me scream or make noises like I'm being lobotomised, pull real hard.

Can I at least go punchbowl swimming with Phenix first to numb my mind against the sheer wrongness going in there?

This character builder includes the FS skills.

I think Lightsaber will be powerful, but have the same drawbacks as Mastering other combat professsions and Ranger - since you can't stack you will have less defense/survivability then others, especially in PvP.

I wasn't able to get even one box of Lightsaber on TC (2000,000 Jedi (similar to combat) xp just for one of the first boxes. Oi!) But I think it will be a step above mastering one of the current brawler professions, even if only just for the fact very few things are resistant to lightsabers.

Well I made it back alive and sane.I even had 2 Jedi give me helpful info and not flame me for being a forcenoob. I won't get a lightsaber as I'm only going to use the force enhanced skills to aid my ranger/swordsman abilities. You have to get to padawan i think to have a lightsaber.
