Sorry for asking such a newbie question, but I have been wondering how areatrack works with slow server loads.

By this I mean - when I whiz aroundas a Bio-Engineer looking for a specific creature to sample (say Dant looking for grassland guardians), a lot of the time there is nothing around me. Even if I go to an area where I know there are creatures and stop it can take quite some time for the creatures that are actually there to appear. Lairs appear first and then slowly creatures appear. This means that it is difficult if not impossible to search large areas in a timely manner, especially for grassland guardians which don't appear to have lairs.

If I take up Ranger to get area track, how would that work if I zoom to an area and area track? Will it give a blank until the creature "loads" (or whatever it is that happens where creatures only appear after 20 or 30 seconds(or even longer) in in the area), or will it "detect" them straightaway?

On a similar note would I find areatrack as a novice ranger helpful to track down creatures or do I really have to decide to progress quite a bit further up the profession? (I will have to give up my only combat skills to become a ranger, but I always have my pets and my wookie bow!).

Unfortunately, if the creatures haven't "popped", then they won't be visible to area track. Rangers have been hoping for fix for a long time, as this problem really limits the effectiveness of Area Track.

I didn't get much use from the lowest portion of area track, personally. Until you can at least judge the direction a creature is in, it doesn't do you much good. You just know that it's somewhere closer than 500 meters, which doesn't really mean much.

My personal opinion would be that it's not worth your skill points.

Thanks, I had feared as much.

Whilst I certainly will become a fully-fledged ranger in the near future, I'll stick with my gut and wait until I am ready.
