Thread: Master Ranger No More

I finally got tired of not having any firepower, so I dropped Master Ranger and the entire Advanced Trapping and Ass-sit...er, Fronteiring lines.

I cashed in 900,000 rifle experience and a bunch of combat esperience for Counter-Sniping III and Rifle Abilities II. (Thanks to a bug I lost 125,000 rifle experience in the process.) I also dropped over 750,000 credits on a DXR-6b with a good damage slice on it. (Max with powerup is 599.) It's going to take a bit of practice to get the hang of Flushing Shot 2, but when I do it right it looks like I can wipe out an entire nest of mobs in the time it used to take to kill one.

I'm keeping the Wayfaring line for now because I like the crawl speed. (Camo is useless, though my partner is agitating for me to keep it.) This leaves me enough skill points for Concealment I and Abilities III. That may change if I decide I really want Advanced Strafe (Master Rifleman ability), in which case Wayfaring goes too. Alternately I might get Counter-Sniping IV, Concealment I and Creature Training IV for slightly bigger pets. In fact, if I'm going to keep Wayfaring, I think I like that idea better.

In any case the likelihood is that my gaming partner is going to want to quit in about a month and if she does, so do I.

I'm wearing the Master Scout title for now. I'll change it to Tracker in publish 8. I refuse to be called a Hunt Master, and Wayfarer is no better (wayfarers are bandits, SOE!) I absolutely hate not being a Master Ranger, but the profession is not merely broken, it is in fact almost completely non-existant. Nine months after the devs agreed that the biggest problem with Ranger is that it is nothing but an extension of Scout...it's nothing but an extension of Scout. Someone once semi-facetiously posted that the Ranger profession should be eliminated altogether, and frankly I think that might be for the best. Too much of what a Ranger should be doing was given to too many other professions.

Hi there,

I can only agree to all you said, in fact I did basically the same, removing master ranger and the two useless lines (trapping and camping). The only problem is that once you start dropping skills and replacing them with actually useful ones from other professions, you will consider to drop the ones that are "slightly useful" too, like the wayfaring stuff. And if you were not rifleman, you would not need the crawling speed, and conceal is a joke anyway.

Slowly but steadily the Ranger profession is dieing.

Good luck, Venture.
