Thread: What is the best combat class to use along with Ranger?
If you are going to hunt small things like Rancors and stuff I'd go Swordsman or TKM. TKM is better though because of the KD, self buff and wound healing but since you are a ranger you have tents to heal your wounds (much slower though).
But if you are going to hunt things like GDK's or Kryats you better go with the rifleman profession and get a very good pet. IMO TKM is the best because you can take down MOBs 3-4 times as fast as a rifleman can and handle multiple MOBs better than a rifleman since Mobs get a to-hit bouns against ranged weapons.
As a Ranger you'll be doing mostly PvE, Swordsman is commonly known as a very good PvE profession, and it really can be. Like Pikeman however, it's very heavy on the HAM costs, a single move will take 150HAM without armour, over 220 with, so either you have to rely on your armour and not use any specials (especially when fighting multiple enemies) or you need buffs. If you get buffs, you can Area Attack 3 all you want and 2 minutes later, BAM, 6 dead hilltop gurreck hunters at your feet, very useful for Rangers indeed ![]()
Note that Swordsman is only REALLY that good if your weapon is. I use a curved sword because of the whole I-hate-hammers thing, but using a powerhammer really is a must to be efficient without buffs. With buffs, it's more forgiving, but slower, depending on the resists of the animal. Scythe's are of course better then curved swords and good ones are better then hammers, but you can't count on being able to find or afford a good one of course ![]()
Rranger favors rifleman, as conceal/mask scent/take cover/conceal shot combo is a very tight one. Also, your basic bone spur and noise traps effect the mind, as does a rifleman's terrific headshots.
I am going, however, for pikeman instead for the melee damage mitigation (something riflemen don't get). It's part of my character template for RP reasons as well, but it seems like a strong one. ![]()

TKM and Master Rifleman are the two most popular, it seems. Honestly any Master combat class is going to be as good as it gets for you.
There ya go.
I like TKM because of the added toughness - with rifles, you're fine as long as the creature doesn't come over to maul you, but if it does, hoboy. Also, being 3 meters away when the critter dies is great for quick harvesting.
