Okay, yesterday I got my biggest contract ever. I was sitting in the coronet Cantina helping a friend get some EH XP, and I get a tell saying a guy is willing to pay 1 million creds to whoever finds the pirate for the hero of Tatooine quest. So I help my friend get his last bit of EH XP then head off to Tatooine.I spent 2 and a half hours wandering the desert, just tracking. Finally I found him, sent a tell and the guy came rushing over.A couple minutes later another group came looking for the pirate, my "employer" for lack of abetter term, then offered me a contract for 100k an hour as a tracker when he needs me, regardless of the end result. Yet it wasn't the creds that got me excited, it was more the tracking and exploring. I've heard rumors about rangers making good money, but I always thought it was from selling resources or just a rumor.

It's certainly one way of making big money, but I tend not to bother with it. It's just so mind numbingly boring, i'm amazed you had the mental stamina to track for that long. My preferred way of making money is just to keep a look out for people offering so and so amounts for blah blah and then hunt it when I feel like it. If you can get that kind of work regularly it can be a lot more rewarding than tracking.

I've reached a new level of peace with tracking for contract.

I started to loathe it not too long ago. I found that there was a direct relationship between the ever increasing level of ignorance among 'employers' (jedi) and the number of requests i was getting.

I'll comfortably charge 500k per hour now. More if I'm busy and have other things on the go. Basic supply and demand folks. My Tracking supply is low and demand is high. This equates to high prices.

This has resulted in my tracking now being more sporatic, which makes it easier to tollerate when I do do it. It is alsonow just a nice random injection of some credits into my bank account. It's a new peace I have found. I do end up allienating those who don't have quite as much money, but I'm here to play a game and have fun. Therefore, I have created a milieu for myself which makes the game more fun for me. When I was tracking for 50k per hour way back when, it wasn't fun. It felt like work. I realized, wait a sec... just because I'm wearing a "master ranger" tag above my ahead, that doesn't mean that I'm a servant of jedi and all other players.

I've also started doing more pro-bono work. I find it more fun to track for someone when there isn't money tension involved. This service is usally reserved for my guild-mates and good friends though.

Reading this over, I realize that some may completely disagree with how I'm doing things. But then I remind myself that I'm here to play a game, not peform a chore.

That's just my $0.02 Cdn and my own little ranger/tracking tale.

hey, a fellow canadian

as for mental stamina, out of game I'm a tech, you want boring work? try doing end user support for people who insist on using windows ME. As for contract tracking, I've never done it, well I have a Jedi asking me to find a peko peko albatross for him, and when I have more time I will, but right now I want to see if I like it, if I do, then great, if I don't I go back to hunting for doctors and such, most of my friends are doctors or CM's and we have a nice arrangement, free buffs for me and a small fee for top quality meat.

I disagree that I woulddisagree.... Your in-gametime is valuable, and you defined a price. There's nothing wrong with that.

Well I'm glad that we're on the same page! I just wasn't in the mood for someone to take what I was saying the wrong way and flame me. I'm in a pretty good mood today... despite my recycler problems last night. Didn't wanna jeapordize my mood.

Yeah, I saw that... I'm sorry about what happened. Too bad you are not on Tempest, I would have helped craftthe recycler with my Master Artisan (I'm stocked with the best resourses, so we wouldn't have to search for too long.)

Excellent. I hope this sets a precedent, as I mentioned recently in another post, where Rangers are sought out as members of groups operating in the wilderness.

Our skill set and the mentality of most Rangers really goes beyond the "shoot-harvest-sell" cycle that so many of us are dragged into. It would be great to see rewards for our tracking and recon potential, as well, and the other benefits we offer groups operating in dangerous territory.

Good show!

well, not really on the same topic, just my short little story.

Last night, I got killed by a Juvy Krayt, while examining him Didn't even want to attack because there was an adult Canyon right next to it. So i go to the MO cantina, heal my mind but NO medics.... So i go to Tatooine, MosEisley and run into two newbs. First i try to convince one to Imperial, but he won't have it. Then, I ask if he has Novice medic, which he does. So i ask if he will follow me so i can make a camp. He does, Great! So I make my HighQuality camp and he 'ewws and ahhs'. He's got novice scout too. So we sit and chat an he heals me up. That's what i like about playing. It's even better when i'm already in a camp and someone comes along! That's the best. On Dant, one time, a Wookie came into my camp and even made me a fishing pole! That's why i like being a ranger. (besides /maskscent lol)

WAY BACK before the Force-Sensitive hassle (Thank the Force it's overwith), I did my share of tracking for "employers", too. I was disappointed because I was helping them try to track down a Giant Canyon Krayt Dragon. As far as I knew, I was the only Master Ranger in the group and the other one was probably just a tracker.I spent about 3-6 hours trying to find one (was offered a million if I could, but 500k if I didn't). Never found one. We found a few Canyon Krayts and when I was about ready to leave, they found a Giant. I could have spent all that time making 2-4M credits with solo groups during all that time. It was still pretty fun, though, because I hung out in the Field Base so people could get mind buffs and such (this was the day I learned BF can't be healed in a camp and Krayts can't be trapped). I got to know quite a few people during that time and I really miss tracking and hunting in big groups. Let's hope all these "revamps" give more of a multi-player aspect to this game. We must stick it out a few more weeks (months?).

Yes this is frustrating, but I think part of the problem is that you could make 2-4 million credits solo groups. This really applies to any profession and is very unbalancing and hence why they nerfed the solo groups. If you think about it any weaponsmith, armorsmith or shipwright could probably make more money this way. Since the solo group nerf, there are allot of professions besides combat who are in line to make better money that doing combat missions by actually playing their profession. This is a good thing.

In these cases, it is helpful if you are actually role-playing your toon. If you look at it in a sense of going on a great kryat hunt and using your contacts to kill the great beast as a trophy signifying your expertise as a hunter, then the money you get on top of it is just that much greater. If you look at any profession in regards to CPU or credits per hour then there will be little point in doing anything except missions or maybe being a doc.

This was in no way shape or form a criticism, just a comment and something for me to comment on as I am bored waiting until I can go home and play SWG.
