OK so a few days ago I made a revelation, last night I discovered another neat little trick and decided I should make a point of it for everyone else.
Now, I'm currently CL 71 with Traps Maxed which may be why I have an almost 100% success rate when trapping. Anyway here are the 2 major issues I found and some thoughts on them.
First, Trapping XP is partially treated as weapons XP. If you are attacking at target which would normally give 5k Weapons XP and 50 Combat XP but you throw a trap you'll get something like 3765 Weapons XP, 1235 Trapping XP and 37 Combat XP. What that means is that the Trap actually hurts your Combat XP gain while simultaneously reducing the amount of Weapons XP you are gaining. To me, it's understandable that it be treated like a seperate weapon type, but it should not deduct from the Combat XP part.
Second, kind of as an off shoot of this. If you're looking to grind Trapping XP get a group and go after creatures that con white or higher for the group. As a Ranger you need only land 1 trap to get the full payout of XP from the creature so just toss a trap and sit back while everyone else kills it. If you land 1 trap and "peace out" you'll get the full Weapons XP yeild. Killing CL 80 creatures last night I was getting 5k Trapping XP and then just sitting back as my group took down the Bol. Of course I got no Combat XP to show for it, but it worked nicely to get some XP for the Village.

Great way to grind trapping if you ask me. Did the last two boxes of ranger trapping in two group hunts that way. Took me a grand total of 5 hours instead of taking a couple of weeks.
