Now that I have stopped chuckling I better actually read your question lol.
I cannot tell you much about PvP unfortunately, you may want to ask on the rifles forum. What is really important is knowing what kind of attack you want to be able to do, and then pick the profession that has that attack. Its all about the specials.
Ranger is always a good investment of skillpoints if you are having fun with it.

After master rifleman / ranger you would only have 4 sp left.
I personally like rifleman as I feel it completments the ranger abilities (especially using traps). The 65 m range is a definate plus. Pistloleer has some good specials (especially stopping shot) but I prefer the range of the rifles tbh. A lot of others like MBH with ranger, as there is an extra 18 sp that you have left over (and may go for SL or use somein the FS skills).
Regarding pvp, I personally dont go for it. The ranger doesn't have enough melee / ranged defence to be totally viable. The ranger is a lot better at pve (big critters our specialty).
Camps are borked, more for eye candy then anything. They only provide healing, I think about the same as a medical centre.
The 30k resource deed will get you about 2.5 M on Chimaera.
Harvesting can still be viable, if you have the time and somebody willing to pay you.
