Thread: How well is /areatrack working?

I'm asking because I was looking for a creature for a guildmate using it, and he was the one who found it trailing me ... I was in a routine of /areatrack, drive about 350m, repeat. The last time, he told me he'd found one, then the display came up and said there was one just over 200m right back the way I came!

I've never had the experience where someone following me found a creature before I did, but I will occasionally be tracking for a specific creature and see none in the area, but then when I turn around, the same creature I am looking for spawns 50 meters in front of me. I assume this has to do with the spawn rates and server lag and all sorts of other related business I can't properly explain. It's a minor flaw in the areatrack skill that I don't know could be fixed based on the factors involved.

Fixed to what you should do to get areatracking working best...

It's quite possible that if you're tracking then driving off in a vehicle 350m or more, what you're looking for actually spawns in after you pass on your vehicle (you're moving through too quickly to see it when the spawn finally pops, so it ends up appearing after you pass through). Areatrack works best if you stay on foot and are walking around, since speeders move you through the area faster than the server can recognize that you're there and cause everything to spawn. So when you do the first /areatrack it isn't there, then it spawns as you drive through (but you don't see it 'cause lag causes it to spawn once you've passed) and then it shows up BEHIND you when you /areatrack again. Try using a mount or walking instead, you'll likely have better results.

You passage through the area caused the creature to spawn (after you had areatracked, apparently). You are better off having your buddy lead the way, while you trail behind, tracking.
