Thread: Changing Template... any carbineer rangers out there?

if you're grinding Ranger, first off, I'd say keep your combat level LOW. Here's why:right now, trapping is borked. if you trap a creature of a level lower than yours, you'll get around 1 XP per trap. NOT worth it. of course, without the trapping modifiers in ranger, you can't trap things that are close to your level because you'll always miss. So, keep your combat level low while you level trapping in both scout and Ranger or you'll end up having to trap a few hundred thousand creatures.

but to address your question-- almost any profession can be effective with Ranger. Personally, I think Rifles and BH are the two best professions to match with Ranger, but carbs would work just fine with their crowd control abilities. Taking BH saves you skillspoints so you can get other skills as well. The template I'll be using is Master Ranger, Master BH, SL 0200, and Marksman 0020 (so my proton carbine will be faster and more accurate) with some FS skills.

basically it's about how you play. I tend to like to play tactically, keeping animals from hitting me. so I don't worry about accuracy since I don't mind taking a long time to bring a critter down. I just want defenses in case the creature DOES get me. So BH has decent defenses and Duelist stance works like a charm. but you lose weapon-specific speed and accuracy from a profession like carbineer.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

I had fun w/ pikeman, but well what can i say. I LIKE GUNS! So I decided to start up the carbines tree. I kept some pikeman stuff so that my combat level will still be relatively high while I continue to grind Ranger and carbineer.

Just wondering if anyone has had lots of fun with it?

Carbines rock. Seems like a lot of people are headed that way though. The crowd control of it is non-existant, but the damage level of a good carbine is enough to pull agro from any tanking profession. When I have a tank with me I'll ease their job by throwing a trap and using a carbine snare. When there isn't a tank it's imperative to do the same. I feel having been a carbineer for a long time and having some really good equipment I can compete very well with the damage levels of many rifles, without the disadvantage of having to be prone for my best shot.

The most important part of changing from a melee ranger is to know that you can /harvestcorpse from 15 meters away, so you don't need to be right on top of the creature anyway.

I'm grinding ranger again in combo with carbineer to get the best battle armour mitigation I can. Works quite nicely for me. Not quite as good as my master doc/rifleman comabt toon but great for harvesting creature resources and of course we can now sell camo kits to the great unwashed My only concern is the lack of healing, even with Ruby Bliel, stims take too long so I rely on snaring traps to keep the mobs off my back.

As the previous poster pointed out make sure you get your trapping line in scout filled before you get too a high combat level. I was CL80 master doc/rifles with scout and had to drop those down to combat level 23 to be able to get some trap xp. CL15 mobs seemed to be about the best I could trap with the starter traps.

Hated dropping the combat level but at least it made me think what I wanted to do!!

My only combat skills are BH 0/4/4/4, I can use any ranged weapon, but my current favourite is my carbine, the range seems to work ok both solo and in a group.

Mitigation doesn't stack to give you improvements in rate of fire more movement. Ranger/Riflemen have exactly the same battle armor mitigation as Ranger/Carbineer, the difference is Carbineers can't wear recon armor at all, which is what I'd kill for in PvP, since there's so little kinetic damage out there right now.

Carbines are very nice man, very nice. The skills are not as powerfull when combined with ranger but still the CC abilities come in handy and the damage is prety good.

Rifleman is good if you are grouping a lot and BH is great if you are solo'ing a lot so make up your own mind.

Agreed.. carbineer will help keeping the animals away from you, stated, and almost too debilitated to attack.

Rifles will kill them faster than they will be able to catch up with you (esp in a group). if they get to you, you might want to run, throw an adhesive mesh and plink away.

BH is fairly decent damage, good defenses and nice specials (although the AoE special is a bit weak) and the LLC is not the big gun it used to be.

however, BH will give you the most weapon choices, and you will become a walking advert for the GRA (galactic rifle association)

i tried carbineer, and while it was very effective, i prefered the faster pace of BH.
