Thread: Rescue Fix Idea

What do you think of changing /rescue to work as a reverse pass-through? Once /rescue is applied on a target, any attacks on the target would pass-through to the ranger. This would give /rescue a utility in both pvp and pve. In order to avoid exploits, /rescue would have be to applied within a limited radius, and the duration would have to be short with a long cool-down. The idea is that a ranger could "take one for the team" giving their group-mate time to beat feet to avoid an incap.

-Takanudo (...think of it as a way for a ranger to add survivability to a group in any situation)

Lol, we already called it the suicide skill, but that woud truely make it one!

My only problem is, if the target runs, the mob would stll have aggro on him, and chase him. The end result would be the same for both parties. Dead Ranger and dead other peep.

It needs to cause a huge amount of 'hate' to make the Ranger get the aggro for it to be truely useful.

I actually prefer this guy's idea from the new Ranger issues thread:

Why couldn't this get rid of agro for someone. i.e the aggroing creature just gets distracted and doesn't attack anymore. Can't be used on yourself, but for others.

This makes me think of the scene where Obi-Wan scares off the Tuskens...although now that I've said that the jedi will want the skill

I guess it could work by causing all of the aggro to retreat. This seems more suited to the Ranger 'run away' tactics, which are implied in our burst run efficiency mods. This would be a lot more useful than how /rescue is currently designed to work (causing a Ranger to become the tank).

I thought that the Ranger rescue ability shout act as a hate clearing special.

It would cause a temporary stop in the enemy AI (similar to what the P-Dart did). That effect would clear the second another attack was performed or more hate was generated. In other words, the rescue would "confuse" the animal, giving the Ranger a chance to step in and take the damage. That'd be a cool way to do it, I think.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

How bout making /rescue a hate-assigning skill? (have to rename the skill of course)

That is if you use the special on some one, it adds a short duration buff to them making them rise to the top of the hate list.

This is a actually something I am taking from EQ where a certain class can add a buff to another player to help them increase their aggro by a certain %. Its a VERY valuable aggro management ability in EQ and could translate very well.

Also there are EQ skills for taking aggro as /rescue was orginally intended, such as

/taunt - this is actually a skill, and when a player uses /taunt a check on the creature vs player skill is made and if it is successful, the player is moved to the top of the hate list (mathematically its the current hate level generated +1) and thus gains aggro.

there are also 2 type of aggro generating buffs

1. A self buff that can be used in combat to increase your ranking on the mobs hate list. As your skill goes up so does the amount of hate you can generate.

2. a buff for othe rplayers or yourself that increases your overall hate generation by a %, and you increase in skill you gain access to higher % hate buffs.

Now this would stick Ranger into the primary role of a crowd control person if implemented but the Ranger lacks defensive mods (its ironinc to note that the Shadowknight class in EQ which I base this idea on ALSO lacks in defensive capability but has unsupassed aggro management skills)
