Thread: Mask Scent while hunting?

I don't know if this is already known, but I discovered something funny today. I was doing gnort destroy missions (I keep changing my mind about which weapon I want to use, right now its carbine) and with my cheap CDEF carbine it was taking me at least 2 shots to kill each gnort with full auto 1. The funny thing is these little gnorts would not fight back. I was standing up and could be within 11 meters of them blasting away and they rarely attacked me. Then I noticed mask scent was still on, I had used it earlier to bypass some red con aggro mobs and the gnorts hadnt been able to disable it. So I turned it off, this time I shot a gnort at max range and it immediately ran to attack me. I turned Mask Scent back on, and again the gnorts couldnt seem to find me, one of them even sat down on the ground while I was shooting it! I killed probably 50+ gnorts and they only tried to attack meabout 5-10 times, either because I was within 10 meters, or I didnt have mask scent on. I doubt this would work as well with melee. The problem is I'm not sure if this is a bug/exploit or if it was meant to be, so I'm not really sure what to do. Has anyone else noticed this?

Crouching, going proneand taking cover will also hinder the enemies from "finding" you.

The deal is typically this:

Masked Scent success gives you one free attack before the creature "targets" you. Standing yields no bonus in this, kneeling gives one croutched gives 2. If you fail one of those "turns" are removed so Standing = attack immediatly, kneeling = search one shot, attack on next and croutched = search 2 shots then attack 3rd. The faster the weapon the faster this "turn" happens. What I do is use a Rifle. Aim (creature is oblivious untill you actually hit it) and MindShot. This gives the greatest chance at a"bleeding" stat up front so that the timevs damage is maximized against the timea Rifle is going to taketo fire again. Then headshot till dead or getting uncomfortably close (pop a trap in there to hopefully slow the creature down). I rarely have them live through shot 3 and if croutched and "masked" it will take 4 shots before they are able to do anything to you (or so it would seem). I have not seen counter examples where this fails as yet. I have often not tripped the check for MS and I get the "roll" rightafter the first shot. In your concealed prone position I have yet to fail a roll and get extra exp every time. Note also I have only done this at beyond 35 m as most rifles have an optimum beyond that (greatly beyond for my new Tusken rifle). If you are close you are not doing it right for a rifleman.

Alright, don't mean to take the spotlight but something said here reminded me of this...

I'm basically a noob to the scout/ranger profession. Sure I'm close to Master Scout, but I haven't really "learned" the profession yet. My question is: Say I mask scent and go prone by a creature and fire at him. He doesn't see me, and then I do something else. Say, shoot again or throw a trap. Assume he sees this and charges me. Is there any way to get him to stop? I know this is a crucial part of being a scout, getting the enemies to stop charging you. Would a warning shot stop him? Or any other method?

Just a quick answer is all I need, don't want to steal the topic. Thanks.

Whenever you successfully "peace" out of a battle all his aggression towards you (assuming he is yellow) will be reset, and you get mask scent, kneel, all over again. So yes warning shot will work as long as you make enough distance. What do you have to worry about if getting too far away and having your target despawn.
