Thread: A bit concerned about one of the Mask Scent changes coming.

from the In Dev notes:

"There is a chance that a creature that detects you while you are scent masked will attack you."

----

I'm a bit concerned about this fix because of the fact that often Non-aggressive creatures are what breaks Mask-Scent.

This means that you could sucessfully move past that group of mottled Wrixes only to have the lvl 35 Sharnaff Bull on the other side of them break your mask scent and decide he doesn't like the way you smell so attacks you, meaning you get killed by a creature that would normally not look twice at you.

Granted they also said that they would make mask scent more effective, but it still leaves the possibility that you will get a non-agressive creature to attack you, and quite possibly bring their entire group along with them.

Any thoughts on this?

I'm worried about this as well, but I didn't think they would be so callous as to have yellows turn "red". If THAT is going in I will NEVER use masked scent. What I do worry about is this...

Reddetects your masked scent, roll for if attacks. If miss there, roll normal person check for attacks (because now that he sees you, the normal part of the code kicks in). This is an extra roll that would not occure had you NOT used masked scent and doubles the change for attacks. NOT cool.

Can someone who knows how get the devs attention on this???

And to add, this would really make a ranger a LIABILITY to groups. Not cool at all...

To quote a famous bard I think you are making much ado about nothing. I don't think that turning yellows into reds that will attack you is what the dev statement meant. You're reading too much into it.

I'm assuming, since mask scent is intended to only really affect hostile creatures anyway, that they meant that statement to mean that if a hostile creature detects you, they are more likely to attack. I don't think it applies to yellow blippies. However, I could be wrong, and I'll try to get some clarification in my next weekly report.

Even with all the issues just stated being addressed, they say it will attack. Not shifted to a normal state and see if you are in the agro range, attack. It's an additional liability. It now means i'm not using it solo next to a leathal mob. Tell me, would you? Not one you can run from, one faster then you on burst and kills in one hit. I wouldn't, you CANNOT take the chance.

I think the patch is basically stating that even though you may succeed at masking your scent, a vicious creature still has the possibility of attacking if you are within their aggro radius.

I don't think so since vicious creatures will attack you in the current version without breaking your mask scent as it is if you hang around in their area too long.

Plus they specifically state that it happens when the creature breaks the mask scent.

We'll hear soon enough now that the patch is on the test center, i'm tempted to hop on there and grind up to Explore II and get that mask scent just to see for myself.

Dont forget the other changes

Attempts at scent masking against creatures should be more successful. Scent masking should be much less likely to break against large groups of creatures now. Improved mask scent's ability to make a creature ignore the player

Overall better chance of masking...

I do hope on the otherhand that "yellow" creatures dont break mask scent... afterall we are not trying to hide from them anyway...

And even if they do brake it they surely dont attack??
