Thread: usefullness of traps
The only one I have in the Ranger line is the Flash Bomb, so far. I haven't used it yet because I had heard that the Ranger traps are bugged or something so I can't tell you about their effectiveness. However, the ingredients for making the Flash Bomb are 20 units of Bone and 15 units of Metal.
Now, 2 of the Scout traps that I love also use metal: Adhesive Mesh (which also uses Polymer) and Phecnacine Dart. I did take up Artisan for the time being so I can have a chance at collecting samples of these myself. But I will probably drop that eventually. I don't think you need to worry about setting up harvesters though.
Yeah I wouldn't worry too much about metal/polymer resources, you can buy a stack of 500 of each that you need from the bazaars for usually around the 2000 to 3000 credit mark for each stack. Thats like 2 destroy missions to recoup the costs and many traps/camps out of those resources.
As for me, I havn't found much use at all for the ranger traps, my primary trap of choice is still the Glow-Wire Trap especially since I am usually grouped with my partner so its a huge benefit for both of us.
I use them ALL the time, but let me tell you spamming adhesive mesh traps at something isn't going to kill it, you'll need to fire your blaster too. And that's when it gets skillful, timeing when to throw and when to shoot.
It's not cheap at all. It's very tactical, and it is not as easy as it sounds.
Not as easy as it sounds - especially when you have groups of agro critters around you and you have to try and stick some in place while you deal with others.
Switch targetting - throwing traps. Blasting the one in your face. Switch targetting to throw another trap timed just right too - and hope it actually succeeds!

curious before going through the long tedious task of scouting, how usefull are the ranger traps & what items are needed to make them. Will you need to start having harvesters and such to supply materials for the traps?
oh hell - why not make it three in a row.
Scouts & Rangers are different *dammit*
BUT, Scout Traps are very useful. No harvestors needed, although I use them, just horde HEAPS of bone/leather.
And finally, Scouting was not at all tedious for me. It was fun. Much more fun to me than sitting clicking crafting tools and materials over and over and over again. You get to see the world and explore... it's not tedious.
sad, but the only traps I use regularly are low wire, plen dart and the root one. root has worked awesome on dantooine. I will root park a lizie and keep it parked while our group fights the other one which I have slowed tith our nice tranquilizer.. unfortunately all of these are scout traps. None of the ranger ones wortk at all.
All in all they have made the ranger class a bigger joke thanit was in EQ.

I really only use the glow-wire trap, phen. dart, and sonic burst when dealing with critters. Sometimes I'll hit em with stink bombs, if I am in a group with ppl who use alot of state effect attacks.
one thing that is somewhat annoying about the traps is that they tend to make lower ones obsolete. Whats the point in using a lep. dart to dizzy or a noise maker to stun the target when a sonic burst will dizzy and stun. It would be nice if traps kept their usefullness regardless of what level trapping you are at.
