Thread: Elite Elite Professions From Ranger (suggestions, thoughts)

With the ever approaching patch of player cities and the addition of player politicians (shudder). My first question is will there be an addition to the number of skill points that each character will have. Or will a player, once elected mayor open up a Politically Sensitive Slot? This has been described as an elite elite class. So if we all get more skill points, and there are plans to further specialize the players in a game, what would be some good elite elite professions to spring up from ranger?

Antarian Ranger:
I like the idea (I tend to think of combat specialists like the US Army Rangers without the silver wings on their chest). There are a few people who want to be able to call in a planetary strike upon a target or have artillery support. The Antarian Rangers definately seem to be more combat oriented than as expert hunters in any environment. The biggest problem that I see, is that if you have a commando in the group, you already have heavy artillery and the last thing that I want is to make another class useless or obsolete.

Infiltrator:
It also seems that there are a lot of people who like the stealthy, cloak and dagger stuff. A super spy is able to blend in the wilderness and in urban areas. They are able to sneak upon humans and animals and use the element of surprise to incap or kill the target this would be very cool for faction play. I dont want to be invisible, but maybe prevent the characters little dot on the radar until combat starts. If the target actually spots the spy, then all bets are off.

Friend of the Furry critters (for the lack of a better term)
While some rangers want to sneak or destroy what lies in their path, other rangers (like the US park service) want to preserve, protect and study the entire biosphere.

Native American Guide
This is the consumate hunter, able to count coups, collect trophy heads, craft jewelry and have uber-resource harvesting up to all three components at a reduced rate (nothing is left to waste). This guide would be able to do all the things rangers can do only better. They have a slight combat bonus (+to hit creature) and maybe this is where the high tech compound bow would fit.

These are my opinions I could always be wrong.

The native Guide is a fantastic idea. I would love to make specialized jewelry and unique items from bone/hide. The ability to harvest all threeresources and the Trophy are all great for this line.

PS: maybe they can make a camp with a roof that keeps the rain out..smiles

Seriously though i think that those things would fit well into the current Ranger line or even be good for an Elite Ranger line.

Environmental Scientist. With the following trees.

Terraforming - Flatten/raise terrain, seed a forest, dam a rivers, create streams, improve a resource fields concentration. Would be great as a complement to architects and anyone who mines.

Wildlife Management - Stock a water area for better fishing, shape an area to attract/repel specific creatures.

Ranching - Gather, contain and maintain reproducing hurds of animals as a constatnt supply of hides/bone and meat, mounts and pets. A factoryis to aweaponsmith as is a ranch to a BE/CH.

Miner - The ability to find and extract limited amounts of specific resources from the environment, even if the current resource spawn tables do not have the resource. So if a wepsmith needs X withY stats, we could gather 100 or so on demand.Very hard to find and very small concentrations so that mass collection would be impossible, but a valuable skil non-the-less

Just the kind of cool things I would love to evolve into.

Hmmm, well I started this game I was thinking the Ranger was like the Army Ranger, and I liked that. Of course working through scout and now ranger I realize its more like the woodland Ranger. Now I'm cool with that and have tons of fun.

I'm a Bothan, and like the whole idea of the spy thing, and hope someday they implement the Bothan Spynetwork. I really like that and the Infiltrator thing is cool. But I also really like the native american ranger thing and getting more of what I have now. I'm having a lot of fun with what a ranger is now.

I like all the ideas, Infiltrator, Native American thingy, and the Combat Ranger is neat too.

I'm trying to reach combat ranger as it is...Master Ranger, Master Rifleman with the Ranged support from marksman, Master Unarmed Combat and as much of TKA as I can get.

The only good thing about the system being bugged the way it is currently is I can ignore parts or whole trees in certain areas right now so that I have more points to distribute elsewhere.

"Elite-Elite" classes are a majorly Bad Thing, and with any luck there won't be any grafted on to the Ranger class. We are sinking too many skill points into too little function as it is now.

AIRBORNE RANGER!!!!

Just a single skill tree elite class of Ranger. Where they can use Peco Peco's and other hugh bird creatures as mounts. Track for sky where the tracking range is doubled.

The devs have said a few times that there will be no more skill points given out for the near future. Perhaps for Space. Elite-elites (such as Urban Planner) will have to ultra-specialise to the point where they have little else other than that class. Politician is a wierd one - it's supposed to be a novice class (i.e. doesn't require another profession as prereq) but it will have some kind of requirement other than just buying the skill (as happens with all novice trees now). I think I remember they are tossing around the idea of it costing Apprenticeship Exp points to get Novice Politician but I don't think they've got it completely settled yet.
