Actually... I hadthe hardest time figuring out why this post had the [NT] mark on it.

  • Until I noticed the piece of text I was seeing was EastSideStreetz' signature.

But I am with you JBMat, a little elaboration would go a long way with this query.

Sorry I meant to say why would you become a ranger I looked at the Skill tree and didn't know what most of the stuff was for. So I wanted to find out why you would be one and maybe get a little info on Camo kits and such.

ranger is not much differnt than scout but heres a list of the big 5 why i love ranger

1. Area Track : great for finding any thing you want to kill ... (as long as it has spawned)

2. Camps: sure the larger ones are a resource nughtmare but heck it sure beats travelling back to a city .

3. Terrain Negoation: ZoooooM ok maybe nit but beats the hell out of not having it.

4. Creature harvest bonus: we get more meat leather and hide

5.Potential: when the devs get around to adding some more fixes/features for us i think ranger will be awesome.

Now it makes sense, sorta.

Positives -

Areatrack means not having to move to see if there are spawned creatures in your area. Call me lazy (ok..Lazy) but on a recent hunt, people are flitting about to and fro, fro and to, and I stand there and tell em what's in the area. Yoohooo, nothing but some panthers east of us at 300m... ha!

Camo and Maskscent - hot dog... Wandering through crowds of reds aggros is fun. Tell a noob its safe and watch him get ate...ok seriously, I use this way more than I should, but I got kits galore and hotkeyed it all. Beats getting 90% to an objective and getting ate.

Bonuses - Harvesting is the most obvious - I get way more than novice scouts do. I few hides per animal add up, and when you start talking larger beasts, 15/20 more hides per is not uncommon. Also applies to meat and bone, but not real sure on the numbers, as I harvest mainly hides. The to-hit bonus are nice, sorry melee dudes, you are next (tee hee, I use a pistol).

Traps - Ok, a positive negative - they suck unless they work, but they seem to be working better. Had a Sonic give me 3 mesages, and 3 GSPs looked rather befuddled.

Terrain Negotiation - say what you will about mounts - I am saving my money for a swoop bike. And I beat a stupid boid up a hill last nite, and they are not that much faster. I kept pace with one for most of a run, so what's the advantage?

Negatives - People laff at me, til they need hides/meat/bone, then I price the stuff just for them. Harvesting is boring, and some planets only have certain hides on easy animals and you gotta kill a ton of them to get any hide...sigh

Oh yeah, we sorta suck in PvP, but get a combat profession for that. Way cool to recon an outpost from 300m, camo up, and wander in and give wedgies to an Imp Colonel. (I really want a /wedgie command, I really really do) Course, this is a positive, as if you are good in a combat role, it takes the others by surprise (dayum, that Ranger got me bleeding, nailed me with like 5 shots in a row, then hit me with some 700 dmg shot, what is he??

I like it, it's fun, and it sure beats being a chef

From what I have seen of the changes coming down the pipefor Chef, you may have to get a new motto soon.

"camo kits work humanoid characters?"

They are supposed to...

  • But as with everything there are several kinks that need to be worked out before they will work pefectly.

terrain and camo=really fun and necessary for advanced planet (endor and dathomir)

traps= to be honest i dont use them anymore, just not effective enough

tracking and harvesting= harvesting a must my main to make money, tracking excellent finding rarer creatures very nice, finding that little punk that shot at you and ran away priceless

camps= they lok cool and wow people and are nice at times, but i dont use them too much to be honest.

I think they work great on NPC's as well as creatures. I've not really seen it break much. It's like being a Spec Force operative. I can hide in the woods, water or wherever (and with Rifleman Conceal Shot fixed) kill without EVER being detected.
