Thread: New Herd Hunting Tactics...

Don't know if anyone's discussed this, but I thought I would post a little tactics tip for taking out lairs with the new herding mechanics that are in place. This tactic is mostly for lairs that spawn two or three level types of the same creature family (i.e. Jundland Eopies and Desert Eopies, Giant Worrts and Worrts, Bocatts and diseased bocatts).

OLD WAY:
Used to be that a single shot could alert a herd of creatures and they would all be on top of you even though your target was wandering around trying to figure out what the heck was going on. Didn't make sense. So, my old tactic used to be to hit the strongest of the pack first, then take out the weaker ones later. Take a bocatt lair for example. I'd bleed the bocatt and let the diseased bocatts run up on me. Usually I would take a couple of hits before the bocatt died, then I could off the diseased bocatts pretty easily.

NEW WAY:
Now, the rest of the members of a herding group do not notice you until your target notices you and runs at you. This is great and makes more sense. It also calls for different tactics. If you can take out the weaker members of a herd before they spot you, the rest of the pack won'tgang up on you.So now, I take out the diseased bocatts in a few easy shots. They go down before notifying the rest of the herd. Then I turn to the more difficult bocatts and I leave the scene pretty much unscathed.

What's better, is diseased bocatts now actually cause disease. Getting rid of any diseased creature before it charges you is a good thing now.

Anyone else have a new way of handling herding critters?

You should add this puppy to the How to Kill thread, so it doesn't get lost.

Thanks, Nraas. I knew we had something like that floating around on the boards.

It is listed in my Ranger Threads listing available via my signature, along with a bunch of other spiffy threads.
