Hi all,
I've been searching the forums lately and trying to gather some more info on the current Imperial Ranger Guilds. I was wondering if you guys could help me fill in the gaps.
I know there are several Imperial Ranger guilds already, the two big ones that come to mind are the The Imperial Sector Rangers, and the Imperial Dark Rangers. I'm wondering if either of these guilds (or others) have a cross-server base like AR does, and more specifically if there are any Eclipse.
If so, how do you guys feel about the guild. Do you think its active and has an impact on the Ranger community?
How would you guys feel about trying to start a new Imperial Rangers guild or unifying some of the existing ones?
Personally, I would like to see an Imperial guild to mirror the presence of the Antarian Rangers. Ideally we would be a cross-server organization, designed to make an impact on the Ranger community on the resource trade.
I've been looking into some lore to find a basis for idea, as you may have already seen on these boards, here is a quote from the unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia about the Imperial Sector Rangers:
"Sector Rangers
a loose association of local system police forces which filled the gaps in the galactic law enforcement system, the Sector Rangers were created by the planetary governors of the Old Republic. The Senate authorized the formation of the Sector Rangers in an effort to bring law enforcement to newly colonied worlds quickly and efficiently. The Jedi Knights couldn't be everywhere, so the Sector Rangers held sway in their own systems. When the Empire overthrew the Old Republic, many of the larger forces were usurped into the Imperial machine as the Imperial Sector Rangers. Others simply fell through the cracks, and remained separate enforcement agencies. After the Battle of Endor, the Sector Rangers continued to bring Imperial law to the worlds of the Outer Rim. The motto of the Sector Rangers read, "What others abandon, we protect."
Another note of interest is in the listing for the Antarian Rangers itself:
Quoted from the entry for Antarian Rangers...
"[Antarian Rangers] that remained loyal to the Jedi found themselves hunted down as part of Emperor Palpatine's Jedi Purge, further reducing the organization's size and scope."
There are no further entries describing who actually fought with the Antarian Rangers. We know Vader hunted down the Jedi and therefore probably confronted the AR, but surely he must have had help.
I think a mission statement could easily be constructed from these two sources. Something along the lines of, "to bring imperial law to the lawless, and assist the empire in the tracking down and elimination of the jedi threat."
Finally, Fred if your willing, I'd love to work on some RP and player events between the two guilds. I think Rangers are some of the best people out there, and from a mature stock we could have a lot of fun playing with and against each other. A resource war could be coordinated and sponsored by some of our favorite armorsmiths, planned skirmishes, special missions to track and hunt down/protect people or creatures... the list could go on.
Let me know what you guys think.

I would love to see a guild of Imperial Sector Rangers. I think it would be fun for the Ranger community. Unfortunately, I see a problem with membership. I believe in all my time on bloodfin I have seen maybe four Master Rangers. If one of these popped up on bloodfin I would be interested.

I recently ran across the Sector Ranger entry on the official site as well. It was nice to see there was an Imperial equivalent of the Antarian Rangers. I was surprised since I hadn't seen anything about them on these boards before. I have been both a rebel and an imperial for short times during my time in this game and would love to see a feud between two ranger associations though I wouldn't be into pvp.

Definitely not many Imperial Rangers around. I play my char as an Imperial Sector Ranger but it's more of a rp/background thing. I just consider him declared with ISR instead of the Imperial Army, a Special Enforcement Officer upholding the law in remote locations, outside of major garrisons. But like AR, Ranger just doesn't fit the role so you need to add in a bit of Smuggler (underworld infiltration), Bounty Hunter (criminal hunting) or similar.
Most of all, enjoy!

I like the idea of having an Imperial counterpart to the AR. Though I too see a problem with the membership.

Yes, I too see membership as a big problem. I did a search and found several posts like this before on this board and in various galaxy boards, but none of them got any support. You can search yourself if you want, but its pretty disheartening. I actually felt kinda bad for those guys, all they wanted was to make an impact on the community but no one supported them. Is that the kind of loneliness an Imperial Ranger is doomed to?
I hope not. Right now the only thing thats keeping me in this game the people. Our class needs help, PvE is a never ending cycle of search and destroy, PvP is utterly stupid and while they may have good intentions, the devs are completely clueless as to how to make this an immersive and fun game. If were not for my friends I would have moved on a long time ago.
Yet even my friends are diminishing. Some just got sick of waiting and left, others got struck by the holo-plague and are no longer functional in a group. Sadly, I retreat to this board for comfort. The insight and optimism of this community is refreshing, but I don't want to pay 15$ a month to browse some forums. I want to play and have fun again. I want to feel like a Ranger and play with other Rangers.
I fear if we can't get something like this started my time SWG will be very short-lived. Please help me think of ways to make this work, please tell me that there is a role for an Imperial Sector Ranger.

I'd be interested but a Rebel Colonel doesn't fit very well in an Imp guild. I'd say that the main problem is a lack of Rangers, especially Imperial ones. Maybe it would be worth posting a thread on the RP board. Instead of being a Ranger only like thing, make it into a sort of policing force. Anyone can join but it is roleplayed as a Ranger group. Finding enough Rangers for one guild is hard enough. But a guild war with the Antarian Rangers might be difficult--there are associate members that happen to be part of other guilds but still like knowing what is going on with AR (like me).

Yep...
our sheer lack of numbers tend to frell us. However, I am in a guild with 1 other ranger, and he and I do as much as we can together.
A ranger guild would truly be cool... geat ideas.. I wish there were more of us.
There are even Jedi PA's now since their numbers are so high.

I am an Imperial Ranger...
An extremely busy Imperial Ranger as there are so few of us!
I do RP my Ranger as much as possible. Unfortunately your correct: the total number of Rangers alone makes this a daunting task.

Dude, stop it. You're almost making me cry here, seriously. This has got to be the most disheartened post I've ever read.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be so melodramatic there. I just really felt bad for those guys. Looking at their posts, I knew exactly how they felt and it kinda got me down
I guess you could say I was trying to stir up the nest a bit, but really I was just being honest. Its hard to be a Ranger right now, and people are losing faith in the profession left and right. I've never been a quitter, but I won't beat a dead horse either.
Taking a look around, I don't think Ranger is dead yet though. There are lots of good ideas on this board and some of you just told me you still role-play as a Ranger. In retrospect, I may be down but I'm not out. Just because its failed in the past doesn't mean the idea itself can't work.
My question to you guys is how can a guild help encourage role-playing? What are some real, concrete ideas that could make this thing work?
If Ranger only is going to be a problem, then maybe we could open the door a little bit more. What classes should the guild include? Looking at the definition for the ISR's, maybe Rangers, BH's, Commando's and SL's would fit? I know that's stupidly identical to the Mando armor cert, but hey, maybe they're on to something there.
Maybe we could have a different levels of affiliation like AR does. Allow people to be associates and stay in their own guild and maybe more would be willing to join. Anyone could be an associate really, an agent or informant should be from any profession.
I'm gonna brainstorm some more and hopefully I'll be back with some new ideas soon
