Thread: High Tech Field Base and GCW

So something I've been meaning to try for a long time, is declare overt, setup a HTFB outside say Bestine and put a covert scanner in it. And sit and waite for Imps running along doing they business. Then I heard that you can drop a turret in a HTFB camp, and I got all excited, thinking I could do both and BLAM!! Let the fun times roll.

So I decided to try it. Niether scanner nor turret will let me drop them. I was a little ways outside of Tyrena, obviously at a point where I could drop a camp. But both deeds said I was not in a "build zone". So, does this mean that I was just not far enough way from the city to drop "structures" or is it that I will never be able to do what I wanted?

And the big question, should I be able to? I think it's a grand idea, and of course you have to be overt to be able to do it. I mean I can buy equipment and structures from my camp terminal if I'm overt. So what's the point of buying them, if I can't plop them down right there? What do you all think?

And I posted this same message in the GCW forum

I would say you were too close to the city.

JB has stated that it is possible to put turrets down near the camp. I'm thinking you might just need to move out a bit further from the city. Try putting one down next to a few houses and such.

As for IF we should be able to do it, I think we should. It is a High Tech Field **Base** kit. It should be a mobile base of operations and not just a camp. Being able to buy them there is just another benefit of that (although you really shouldn't buy them there in most cases as they cost more from the camp).

Yup, the no-build zones around a city are usually larger than the municpal zone around that same city. You can't build a camp in a municipal zone, but you can build a camp in a no build zone (i.e. Dathomir ).

OK so I moved out further, and sure enough I got the screen to lay down the deeds, for both scanner and turret. But, I could not find a spot, in the yellow building area, where it allowed me to drop either of them. I tried two difference camp sites, on pretty flat ground, before the camp. Tried all areas, with all rotations of the turret and scanner. No doppage.

So JB, did you really put a turret down in or near a HTFB? If so, what was the technique?

I didn't do it, as I didn't have the FP.

However, I was overt, popped an HFTB - we were in the middle of noplace at the time- but the location was strategic. My buddy bought a turret from the HFTB, unsure of price, he is a smuggler and he gets stuff cheap. I went out about 10 m and dropped a scanner I had. My smuggler bro dropped his small dish turret right beside it. And we sat there, buffed and ready to rock. The silly Imps saw the red dots ( I assume), figured we were merely spawn, and came over the hill laffing and singing - or whatever it is imps do as they race towards their death.

So yeah, you can "fortify" your bases. Fat lot of good it did - I mean it woulda looked cooler with like 5 turrets with mutually supporting zones of fire - but as we all know, the camp died when I took my first shot. Wow, I wasted some resources - was worth it.

Oh yeah, we accomplished what we wanted, turned all the imps Overt with the scanner, dropped a few with the turret - most importantly - we forced them to deploy early and we weakened their docs supply of stuff, as well as made them use ammo and time on two decoys. Wow, the nice thoughts they had as their speeders got zapperated.

Yes, you can do it. I am guessing you were too close to Tyrena to drop the turret. As I said - we were in middle noplace.

You cannot drop turrets on a HTFB. Trust me I have tried.

You can requisition the items you want, but not much else.

Hmmm well JB said he put one down in the middle of no where, with a HTFB dropped. Someone else says you can't drop a turret at all.

I have 2 more questions? Do you need a structure near by to drop turrets, or can you just drop one anywhere?

Secondly, if you need the camp up, and it goes poof because of combat, what happens to the turret and scanner?

Also, we could put mine fields around your camp/turret which also gives a TEF.

I was outside the base's limits, maybe 10 m, when I dropped the scanner, and the turret was more or less next to it. Maybe the key was being outside the camp limits. Again, I was so in the middle of noplace - ok, 600 meters away from anything at least, and well over 1k out of the town limits.

And yes, you can drop stuff in the middle of noplace without a camp. Was a favored tactic on my server, with or without a camp - dump a scanner and turret, leave the medic there, protected. Was anyhow, we figured out that if you speed in... well y'all should know the tactic.

Camps have a no-build zone of their own, you can see the circle when you place harvestors and such. It's not that big, but the bottom line is you can't place things *in* the camp.

the real point here is that for any of it to be usefull a ranger has to have the ability to enter combat without his camp disbanding.

Still have my deeds for both, and plan on trying it someplace out on flat ground. I also want to surround it with minefields. yea speeders can get past the minefields, but if their field over laps the turret, then they get nailed when they stop.

Put a three person team at the turret, to take care of any insurgents. And you man the turret if overt and there is a valid target near by. A lot FP, but if you do this outside of Theed or Bestine some place like that, will probably get a lot of action.
