Thread: Changing Professions

No, I am still staying Ranger, so chill.

I did decide to change combat professions, just for giggles. I decided to go with the flavor of the month and go TK. Mainly because I had never been melee at all, ever, anything.

First off, that new droid they give ya - what a freaking pain in the azz. She, has to be female as no guy could be that annoying, went to the big droid scrap heap in the sky.

What amazes me is that paralopes give more xp then meatlumps. And paralope hides are decent on Talus right now. I will be providing the local armordude with enough wooley for my new armor.

And if I calculate this right, I can have enough SP to keep Pistoleer long enough to get at least 3 free boxes in TK (combat xp being maxed).

Anyhow, I will be wahhh-pinging (political correct term for flung poo) my buns off this week. No AFK macros - I will be there slapping stuff silly. I figure with a couple hours a night and the weekend, I can master.

I bore easily, and it seems the TK forum is not as insanely stupid as the pistoleer forum.

Wonder what my Krayt FW is worth??

That is my estimation, too. I am going to max combat xp with pistoleer, then switch to rifleman (I like fanshot and nothing else about pistols).

I kept an eye on this 'flavor of the month' talk for a week now and made a list to see which combat profs were called 'fotm' multiple times in that week (forums that I read, ingame chat, irc). List of those being called fotm 5 times or more:

- Rifleman
- Combat Medic
- Fencer
- Teras Kasi Artist
- Swordsman
- Pikeman (probably because of the quite 'easy' way to get a good variety of pikes with DoT's, someone should help those poor Nightsisters and give them their Weapons and their force-sensitivity back)
- Bounty Hunter (not the master version tho, the version with pistoleer skills and the pistols tree from bountyhunter)

Leaving just commando, (pure) pistoleer and carbineer out of this list.

I guess it's safe to say that this whole 'fotm' talk gets a bit old by now. Apparently all combat profs besides two quite broken and one heavily nerfed are supposed to be 'fotm', guess there is not much of a 'fotm' there anymore to talk about .

In case you aren't aware JB, some tips on weapon selection:

1) Get a pair of vibroknucklers. Yes I know you aren't certified yet (If you're still in brawler). Do it anyways.

2) Buy either looted knucklers from the bazaar, you can tell because they have no creator and a HAM of 19/31/19, or have a weaponsmith focus on low-HAM. My smith could make 20/32/20.

3) Get a speed slice.

Despite the lack of a cert, you still get AP 1. After the multipliers you are doing the same damage, only you are doing it at a rate of 2.7 instead of unarmed's 4.0.

Being uncertified means no matter how good the damage is, it is reduced to around a base 10, so a damage slice or high-damage knucklers are pointless. Once a TKA the damage will go up, however...

You cannot spam attacks with a high-HAM pair of knucklers. You can use them all day with a looted or low-HAM crafted pair. Through the unarmed tree this is invaluable. I still used my knucklers all the way to master and never had any problems.

So far my guildies that have tried my recommendations swear by them, too. High-HAM knucklers will kill you faster than a mob.

Thanx S -

Just happen to have acquired a pair this morning from my friendly neighborhood arms dealer.

Now if I can find that silly girl smuggler with the purple hair what owes me about a million slices for the countless containers I gave her.

I just hope she wasn't holo-grinding!

Im sure that you already know...

mynocks on Lok have vulnerability to kinetic and are great for xp and resources, the missions pay around 9k and around 9 critters at 3k xp per kill pop out of the lair.

Its a fun an useful profession to complement ranger. The sad thing is, you will never actually miss the +to hit...

Are you telepathic?

You would have been a great loss to our community. Nobody can flame a grinder like you can

News update -

I gave it a go. Did what y'all said. Even armored up. Something was missing.

Anyow, back to pistols. I think it was the fact that I actually had to stand there and take hits... against my nature.

And the smuggler is a smuggler - silly hair and all she was not hologrinding. The better news is my smuggler bro, played with him since day one - is tired of doctor (his dalliance with something else) so we are gonna grind pistol together.

All I can say is, gonna be a lot of hides at my house. And maybe some decent loot.

Well, you won't know this since you didn't make it that far but there is a huge difference between the unarmed tree and even novice TKA. The discrepancy only gets bigger as you reach master.

Maybe it is a good thing though. Giving up Meditate IV, much less master TKA, is painful...

My guildmates gave me heck for giving up TKA (especially the meditate line). It is a flavor of the month for a reason .
